Not that it bothers me, more of curious than anything.
I find curious it doesn't display album artwork when playing audio files, either if it's on the files metadata or the album folder.

Canada Just purchased from Amazon.ca for $199 Cdn; It's really superb player!

We really wanted the region-free version but not willing to pay triple the price plus losing warranty coverage.

We're Amazon prime members in Ontario and received the UBP-X800 on Wednesday (ordered Saturday), shipped from New Westminster, BC.

This model sells in the UK for £400 and across the EU for Eur350 (Iberian Peninsula) to Eur490 (Ireland) so the price in Canada and the US is great.

We can't say much yet but this player is better than anything we have ever experienced. We definitely will NOT be connecting it to the internet, so no Netflix - and no unwanted unknown "upgrades"!

The only experience of major interest so far has been playing the Harry Potter Vol 1 4K Ultra HDR on a new Samsung UN55MU5500 and I have to say that it leaves the other media, Blu-Ray and DVD in the dust. The grandkids loved it, but sadly the sort of stuff we like will probably never see reissue on 4K; pity! The masters are probably too old for quality up-conversion.

Despite the disclaimer in the manual that this player can play only NTSC and it actually specifies not PAL this is definitely not true! At this stage we can only attest as to DVDs and not Blu-Rays but assume our experience with both would be the same.

While the unit is very clear regarding region codes ("playback prohibited by region code") we have been playing back numerous PAL region "0" or "ALL" from Australia, England, Germany, and South Africa. In fact the South African DVD is a Sony Music DVARI1389 "Roger Whittaker in Kenya".

We still have a Yamaha DVD-S2700 for playing other region DVDs but still need to get something more modern to include PAL as well.

IS There a list somewhere of problematic blu-rays for that player? (Ex: Dunkirk)

I bit the bullet and ordered from Groupon for 133 SHIPPED. Never ordered through Groupon before so hope all goes well.

Look at the Dunkirk thread on this forum. Numerous people are reporting sound issues. Hoping it’s the only titles with problems

It's under System Settings. So you don't have this option?

A lot of reports on all the recently released Nolan films from WB.

Is this the best player for the money? I am thinking about buying the TCL 55” P605 and will need a player. Is this player the best value as the TCL is the best value for the money?

HDR > SDR

From my readings the Panasonic players are among the best @ this.
Oppo and Cambridge players are next best @ this. ...From my readings.
Ask anyone who has a 1080p front projector or HDTV who compared the 203 and 900.
The Sony 800 is not up to it; the setting is too limited and each 4K Blu-ray disc requires a different setting.

True, the 800 is three to four times less money, depending of where you live.

Anyway, a 60" 4K UHD HDR TV today you can find for $800 ... or less.
All these players, the 800 included, that's all they're waiting for, a happy match made in heaven.

⭐ Bonux: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/son...blu-ray-player

By the way, Sony 800 and 1000ES, and Oppo 203/205, and Cambridge 4K Blu-ray players use the company MediaTek for their video chips. The Oppo and Cambridge are custom designs, premium that have the guts to swim in Dolby Vision waters in the middle of winter when the temperature dips below zero and the winds push the snow @ 100 miles per hour.
Their players are 4-wheel drive too, all terrain vehicles ready for the Rockies.

The Sony 800 is amphibian. ...Waterproof and with an attitude.
For the money, the Sony 800 is still a hell of a good bye and a solid performer.

Cheapest I've seen was $150 on/around Black Friday and that's when I bought.

Also, I believe the Oppo UDP-203 ($550) is the only 4k player that currently supports DV. Other than a handle of LG UP-970s that got the update before it was pulled.

The only thing I can think of that you may be referring to would be a Dolby Atmos soundbar. Which, of course, is just simulated surround sound, and starts at $900.

Sorry but I have just started looking into this stuff. What would be the sound bar quality below Dolby Atmos?

The UBP-X700 will be released later this month and will support Dolby Vision via a firmware update this summer.

Wait so the number is lower but it supports DV? That's not confusing at all.
