Made the jump to 4K at XMas. Went with 65" x900 and this x800. Having a few issues and I've actually read through this entire post with no luck. My AVR, Yamaha a810 does not pass 4K audio. I'm using the hdmi2 audio out and am able to get the lossless audio working. It wAs trial and error but somehow I got it working! Running hdmi arc. All new 18gb cables for everything. Currently not using optical. That's my next step in problem solving...

Issues-

Using Harmony remote that is giving me grief. Since hook up I've got 5 remotes on the go... (TV, BR, Bell Fibe, AVR, Apple)

when I pause and then play BR I lose sound and have to manually get back on right channel with remote.

When I exit YouTube I lose sound as above.

I've read another hdmi to TV might assist? Not sure if my AVR has this ability.

No way the Mrs is going to figure out how to get this working if I'm away!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Must say BR looks outstanding. 4K YouTube the same. (Waiting for Bladerunner 2049 for first 4K BR purchase.). Some Zbell channels are amazing. HVent found a good hockey feed yet though. Have not upgraded to Fibe 4K but if hockey was actual 4K and clear I'd consider it.

Because its a cheaper model, it uses a 12 power adapter instead of being built in.

See Sony's web page for the UBP-X700

Gross. The X800 has such a nice industrial design.

So the only difference is the design and power adapter?

Same with Panasonic...the 900 (THX certified) does not support Dolby Vision but the new 820 (non-THX) does plus HDR10+ ... coming up this spring.

2018 has a lot to do with ... improved video processors. They need very high processing for Dolby Vision.

The weight, 1.4 kg versus 3.8 kg.
The size, the 700 is lilliput.
The DVD Audio support is gone, or is it?
3D is still on board, ouf! Or is it? I sure hope so...if not it would be like . . . the apocalypse. Nostradamus, the apotheosis, the book of Genesis.

Brief it has Dolby Vision and HDR10...the rest don't really matter...it doesn't need much room in a rack or on a table. You can lift it with your small finger. The power supply must be minuscule, it probably can run on couple D batteries, and your electric bill should be real low.

The list price? ...I bet $248.00. And on Black Friday...$89-99
https://audiojamonline.com/sony-ubp-...ay-disc-player

I know, funny link. Still, it can't be more than $250 list. And it should get down to $150. It's a mini plastic box with couple feathers inside.
It don't matter, now we have more Dolby Vision players. And they are affordable too.

At least Panasonic incremented the middle number. Sony could have done the same thing.

The middle number, 2, most likely means 2nd generation.

I got my harmony remote dialed in correctly with the 800 and the rest of my system including a non HDMI equipped Yamaha AVR . I can try and help you if you want. Can you give me the make and model of your AVR and display?

Why is that gross? Moving the transformer out of the chassis has a lot of merit especially when it comes to reducing unwanted noise from the AC line in.

I checked the back of my unit and its AC line in. There is no separate wall wart on mine coming in.

Hey, good point...AC noise. I still prefer a detachable three-prong AC power cord for robustness, confidence and solid inspiration, like a powered amp, a powered sub, a super powered computer, a powered bitcoin mining farm. I think only the Oppo players provide that, yes. Call me old fashioned.

See Sony's web page for the UBP-X700

Looks like this could be easily used in different regions for Blu-ray just by getting the 12 volt convertor that suites your own AC voltage.

Its easy to kit this way for various regional localities, universal power supplies CCA's mounted inside the player are more expensive. These power bricks are cheap, and yes they do fail more because they aren't designed to use air convection/heatsinks to stay cool. I doubt the earlier comment about less AC interference, the fact that you have a unshielded DC power cables going to the player is like a big antenna. Usually power supplies inside a player are less prone to AC interference, thats why all the better designed player use them rather then power bricks. Also power bricks are visually tacky, but thats my opinion.

In the short run this new player whenever it gets a DV update will be another choice for the masses which is good.

So size and weight roughly cut in half, compared to X800. I am more than happy with my X800. Menu design seem the same as well.

I like Sony doesn't put out a lot of models on the market, compared to Samsung or Panasonic. Not sure about the name. X800 name feels greater than X700...

Your electrical theory is weak using it to defend your argument isnt helping you. One needs a long run to induce any kind of noise pick up. In the average home this "unshielded " cable will not pickup any unwanted interference. Can you proove to me that the internal power supply generates less noise without resorting to manufacture's advertising glossies? Transformers are inherently noisy device and so are the rectifier diode bridge used to convert AC into DC.

I do agree with you in the power plug. I dont like them either because they usually take more real a state on the power bar than a normal plug.

Seams like they are all about the masses this year which is smart given the huge success of the X900E and X800. Upgrading the X900 this year brings it closer in performance(maybe even better?) to the higher models of last while, I would assume, keeping the lower price point. Same for the X700, giving DV and the same benefits as the X800 at a lower launch price but at the cost of the build quality(something the general consumer probably will not care about).

This is just my speculation as to why there were no higher end devices announced. Imagine an X930 caliber(or maybe even better) that launches a grand cheaper than the lowest end of the 2018 QLEDs or OLEDs and a DV player with the Sony name that costs the same or little more than a phillips or LG. Sony could make a killing this year all why they ready a Z9, A1 and X930/940 successors with the X1 Ultimate chip and a higher end(premium build) DV player to launch with them. Or they can leave that stuff for next year, lol, just speculating but they already had some of the best reviewed TVs and player on the market so they seam to want to continue the success of the X900E at the more general consumer friendly price points where they very successful last year.

Or I can be completely wrong and sound like an idiot but it's fun to speculate. Plus as a 930E owner I am kind of selfishly happy at the thought of no 930F, and hoping the 900F does not out perform the 930E to much or at all lol.

Based on the spec page it also doesn't have Bluetooth support, not that I personally will miss this.

I get my X800 tomorrow. Can't wait. I'm looking forward to the Bluetooth support, since I do a lot of late night viewing, where I have to keep the volume down, and subtitles on.

Is Sony going to keep making the X800 in 2018?

The X700 (to my eyes) is hideous looking.
