I put the exact same model of Sandisk USB Flash Drive on my X-800 and the "resume" feature doesn't work, I have to rely on the Bookmarks feature if I want to resume later a movie I stopped watching. But this can also be done on my European X-800 without any USB flash drive. And for the rest of discs like the ones from Warner, Sony or Universal I don't need a USB flash drive either if I want to resume a disc I've been played earlier, even if this was days ago. My wall socket has a switch that lets me shut off any power to get into the devices connected to it, something I do every night so these devices are not on "Stand By". Even doing so and leaving the X-800 a couple of days without power the resume function works for those Warner, Fox or Universal discs suggesting that the European version of the X-800 DOES have some internal flash memory.

Correct. Here is my issue. My TV only has one input that can do HDR. Before I bought the player I had my Roku Premiere + with HDR in that input. Certain shows and several movies had the HDR available and it would tell you which shows were HDR before playing them.

When I bought the player I switched my played to the one input that outputs HDR and put the Roku in the standard 4K UHD input. When I got to the player it only shows Ultra 4K on those shows that used to say HDR on my roku. Maybe the interface is different on the Netflix app using the Sony UBPX800 compared to the roku. Thats why I question if the player I have has HDR on Netflix.

Have you looked at the Panasonic DMP-UB200? Seems like an equal alternative to the Sony as long as you don't mind a single HDMI.

I just picked up one of these for our modest setup in the family room. Forgive me if this seems like a dumb question, but is there supposed to be information displayed on the front of the unit? Every player I've had before has had some kind of information displayed on the front of it when it's open, closed, during disc playback, etc. I'm not seeing that behavior with mine. Thanks.

No front display on this player, unfortunately.

Some of us were griping about this since player was first announced last year.
It was just one small reason I selected an Oppo (DV was the big reason.)

This seems to be the growing trend with front displays on players. I have the Sony 800 but it's not the first player I have purchased that does not have a front display. The last two Blu-ray players that I bought also did not have front displays. I think this may be the wave of the future. I mean the first Blu-ray player I ever bought, back in 2007, was a Panasonic. It not only had a front display, but you could turn down the level so it wouldn't be too bright. I still have it and it still works. Same was true for the one HD-DVD player that I ever owned. I noticed, not long after, that even though the players still came with front displays, they stopped giving you the option of being able to turn down the level. Changing times, always.

I suppose I can look back through 146 pages to find answers, but has anyone that's currently reading this thread had playback issues? I'm talking with every single movie you've tried playing.

I think I may have gotten a bad player because every movie I have played has skipped, frozen, had audio cut out, or something. They're always minor issues that only last a couple seconds and can usually be fixed, but it happens all the time. I'll then try the disc in my Xbox and it will work fine.

Yep, mine would freeze itself that way when it was powered down. Then the next time you turned it on the apps would be gone, personal info wiped cleaned, and wi-fi connection gone. I just returned and exchanged it at the store tonight.

Not having a front panel display is not a bad thing; they introduce noise.
Hey, see the positive in simplicity. High end components never use a front panel display.

Agreed. Actually, I don't even miss it and it can be a distraction if the unit is sitting in front of you, like under your TV.

Bought one of these players back before the holiday. Took it out the box, updated the firmware, and haven't had one problem since plugging it in.

It's a keeper.

It mostly is. Only had issues on the recent Nolan 4K discs. Other than that, great track record with this play so far.

Not on every single disc. In fact only once did I have to do the whole "pull the plug on it" I think that was with Planet Earth 2. On Pacific Rim I got some weird pixelation with rainbow colors at the bottom of the screen that went away within a few seconds.
