It doesn't on 4K?
The discussion thread here has a lot of comments about a soft look and maybe DNR being the culprit. The BD is supposed to look sharper. My BD looks very good, so I'm holding off on a 4K purchase. I really like this film, this and Edge of Tomorrow are primo TC movies.

It looks like I might need to finally send my player in. I know a few months ago I had posted about this issue that I was having where when I turn on the player at times I will get the UI, when I hit play it just goes to a dark screen while the power is still on and I can't use any remote commands. I need to unplug and replug in the player from the wall outlet to get it to work. I am not sure as to what is going on here. I've updated the FW and have tried DVD, Blu, and 4KBD, it keeps doing this. So very frustrating since this player is a tank.

Have you tried a different HDMI cable? Or maybe try a different HDMI in on your tv.

Output resolution is set to auto. I just noticed detail seemed to be smeared when I had it set to auto 1 or auto 2. So blu-rays and DVD’s still play at 1080p. And 4K blu-rays are output at 4K.

I’m happier with it now. Film grain is even more present now (which I like if it’s supposed to be there&#128513.

So with your 4k upscaling turned off does the tv do the upscaling to 4k then on blueray?

Yes, Samsung 4K tv does the upscaling. It's always done so, I just wanted a 4K Blu-ray player. But when I bought the player, I didn't even think about that. I automatically set it to auto2 since that's what was most recommended for this player.

Honestly, I don't know for sure. It may be because of my Samsung 4K TV and Sony 4K Blu-ray player combo.

But give it a shot. See if you can tell a difference. Again, just for myself, I noticed a difference after turning off the 4K upscaling.

Also, hopefully you can research and dig into some reviews of your LG tv; get some sure fire answers.

When researching mine, I found the TV automatically upscales to 4K. It's part of the Samsung 7100 series and it considered one of the best 4K TVs; especially for upscaling.

Like everyone already said in this post I also bought this player in early November with all the rave reviews and the price. Since then same issues as other people have mentioned. Freezes up on 4K and regular blu ray playback and today I decided to watch one of my old blu rays The Man From Nowhere and the damn thing would not even play it!!! It kept skipping and the menu would not even pop up. I thought maybe the disc was scratched but that’s impossible as I keep my discs in mint condition and the fact I have seen the movie twice only. Which worked flawlessly on my Panasonic. I was so frustrated I called amazon and they are sending me another one. Let’s see if that works.

Anyone have issues with movies not running at all? Or skipping a lot?

What’s frustrating is reading all these reviews and the price but it’s been a terrible experience so far. Nothing is more frustrating then getting ready to watch movie and have it skip or just freeze.

It’s funny you say that as I have the same tv series and also thought the 4K upscaling on the player was terrible. I just turned it all off and let the tv automatically upscale. Do you put your player on original resolution and 4K up converting off?

I just got my X800 today. Very surprised by the build, got some heft.

So far so good. I hope it doesn't have any issues cause it's a decent player for $129

Played my first movie no problem.

* In the second video, set the BD Audio MIX Setting to OFF ... from the Audio Settings menu.
[SpareChange must have been spaceout when he left it to On]

** Output Video Resolution to AUTO is good ... from the Screen Settings menu.

I am surprised by all the issues from this player. I've had mine for almost a month now and no issues at all.. Also, for some of you, do you use the Direct picture settings? I saw a video about this being the best option for picture quality.

I have been using the player quite alot much do to issues people have reported on this thread. Seems though my player is OK though it has freezed 2 times after Black friday when I got it. Both times the issue Washington fixed by a resepti If the player, not even needing to diconnect it from the AC outlet.

Grain of salt but someone on a Sony Community thread I started mentioned freezes and skips being the result of a poor laser and Id likely need the thing sent in to be replaced/serviced.

Now that you bring that up I do recall the PS3 had the same issue when it was first released. I had a bad laser and my discs were skipping and then it just froze and would not work. I had to send it to Sony and they replaced it but I was out of warranty so it cost me $90 or so. But I do remember it was a big thing back then and they finally fixed the laser.

Flash forward to now and it seems likes its the same thing. We likely got a bad batch as other are having no issues. Anyways I contacted amazon and their return/exchange policy for the holidays is extended till January 31. So I exchanged for another one. Let’s see what happens.
