Or, if you go one step @ a time in describing your connections, perhaps someone can help you here, me included. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 01-30-2018 at 02:31 AM. Reason: typo |

I did not contact Sony support. I don't think it is the connection because x800 would not response after powering up. I can see the green power light but nothing happens. After unplugging and plugging back up, the x800 would start right back up like nothing happened, well I have to log back in to my apps. I might go to BB to see if I can exchange another one. I do not have issue playing 4k disc.

If I understand correctly you have no onscreen home menu after powering on?

I would exchange the machine for another.
But first! 1. Power on the Sony X800 all by itself. 2. Wait five seconds and power on your display. 3. Last, power on your receiver. And! Can we go to some basic settings in your player? • First, page 26 in your manual, please perform a Reset. • Page 27, read the Picture (No picture or the picture is not output) section. I'll be back... Last edited by LordoftheRings; 01-30-2018 at 05:34 AM. |

Been playing a few different discs on the 800. Played a newly released DVD (the F1 Williams film) and the player crashed twice. First time the screen went black then had what looked like “classic” white TV noise, then black again, then more white noise for a split second then my TV lost signal but the player stayed “on”. I had to turn off the player then back on again and then it began playing where it left off. So I carried on watching the film, then about 20 minutes later the player just paused / hung with a still image and no sound. Tried pressing stop, tried pressing play, tried menu, the thing was just totally unresponsive. I had to power it off at the wall and then back on again.
I have to say, this is totally unacceptable. How can a company issue a product which fails to play discs. If it’s something I have done wrong, then fair enough, but to my mind, I have set the thing up fine and it plays when it feels like it. |

I purchased a Sony 65XBR850e...I want a 4k player and was thinking about this one. But I see there is a new one the UBP-700 coming out that will also decode Dolby Vision. But I don't think my tv supports Dolby Vision so is it pointless and I should just go with the Sony 800?

Its only pointless if you never plan on getting a display that supports Dolby Vision HDR. Some people prefer the UBP-X800 since it has DVD-Audio support, better build quality, and works with wireless Bluetooth headphones. |

x800 has a lot of problems with random freezes/hangs/crashes, something Ive yet to see with the x700.

In their technical spec., their said if VCDs are partially compatible with this player. What does it mean with that statement: Is the player can play VCD 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 but not SVCD (Sony UBP-X800 can't play SVCD as mentioned in user's manual), or the player can only play legacy VCD (VCD 1.0 & 1.1) like other 4K blu-ray player?
