Ok. So I had to change the 4K upscale to auto 1. I originally had it turned off. But there was an a/v sync issue if I had it turned off and the 24p setting turned on.

I’m letting the tv do the upscaling for blu-rays with auto 1 and 24p turned on. And now the a/v sync issue is fixed.

My X-800 has died today after 10 months of working flawlessly. I was watching Prometheus on UHD BD, it froze, I ejected the disc, turned the player off, then on and that was it, the player works but it doesn't recognize any kind of disc. Fortunately it's still on guarranty.

Some people are having minor recurring problems that are getting blamed on the disc, but it's very likely the player. They exist on a spectrum of brokenness too, with would appear to be recurring minor problems. You think it's something else because your player works well enough 90-95% of the time.

exactly one of the problems I was encountering. At the point of the second disc not playing you know that there is one of two answers, one being the most logical: 1.all the discs were manufactured incorrectly 2.there is something wrong with your player.
2. Very unlikely that 3 discs were all manufactured incorrectly, right? Was on Sony support chat, and after going around and around. The best they could do was: buy a copy from a different retailer. I said “no, I’m not shelling out another $25 for this movie!” Retailer will only let me exchange disc for same movie.

Then they say “ok, return movie, but ask for a different movie.” What?? I tell them that that is unacceptable to have a player that only plays some 4K movies. They then give me the warranty number.

Then I call the Warranty number and after being on phone for 30 min, I get disconnected. I can’t believe this is how Sony treats their customers! I am sooo frustrated!!

Well I’m serious, because it’s a matter of marital bliss, not to mention avoiding dishwasher hands myself, so to gkolb or anyone else, I need an honest recommendation as to a reliable dishwasher brand as ours prematurely died tonight and I find the online reviews to be less reliable than some movie or hardware reviews, not to mention possibly fake and made by those with vested interest.

Especially interested if anyone has experience with Bosch? And what brands/models to definitely avoid.

Please PM me if you’ve got info.
Sorry for the off topic, carry on.

Um wow, that sure sucks. Bet it's laser failure (just a gut reaction).
Best wishes, maybe you can get an X700, not that it's miles better, but it's a new model and they hopefully learned from the X800 experiences.

LG and Samsung are reliable. Good brands when it comes to dishwasher machines.
Sony is not in the dishwashing business.

If you can buy a Miele, they are expensive but after that you won't take anything else. I had a Bosch and it wasn't bad but there were several issues that made me get another brand once I had enough.

Some of the problems I had: with stainless steel surface unless you keep it spotless clean all the time my Bosch started developing rust spots which I could not get rid off, the Miele has a coating that makes it much easier to clean the surface but also protects it. Wash quality, My Bosch put a lot of emphasis in saving water, the results were dishes that often weren't all that clean.

I also had a couple of times electronic problems and error codes. I loved the look but I wouldn't buy it again. What made it worse mine was one very expensive model, I felt it wasn't worth it. I also had plastic bits becoming brittle and causing problems on the internal trays.

If you have the x800 set to 4k upscale auto 1, isn't the x800 (player) doing the upscaling?

Beside the sync issue, does it look better at all?

Auto 1 with the x800 and my Sony TV and the x800 upscales to 1080P. And then my TV takes it to 2160P. But with a non Sony TV the x800 will scale to 2160P.

I just leave the upscaling off and let my LG do the work and it sure does it well. I tried auto2 when I first got the player, but I feel that the display doing the upscaling looks better.

This. I went back to 4K upscaling turned off. But I had to turn off the 24p. It was messing with the a/v sync

It certainly is the general consensus. Most settings on the Sony X800 4K BR player are @ their best when set to Off and/or regular Auto.
But because we all have different setups, it's a very fun thing to experiment; that way we become our own experts. Our own eyes and ears are our reference to our preference, short of hiring a professional ISF video calibrator. ...Spears & Munsil, WoW Disney video calibration discs are excellent to put us in the ball park.

I am not sure why the 24fps would be causing an A/V issue. Are you running to a receiver or using your TV speakers?

Running to a receiver. When it’s on, the audio is too fast. When 24p is off, the audio is perfect.

I do have the hdmi audio only running

So hdmi 1 for video and hdmi 2 for audio only

No sync issues here and I am running to a 2012 receiver out of HDMI 2 while HDMI 1 goes to the display. Your receiver should have an A/V sync option somewhere in its setup menu so you don't have to ditch 24fps. IMHO 24fps is the one most crucial settings for films.

It does have an auto sync. But it’s also a blu-ray home theater system. I’m not sure it applies the auto sync unless it’s actually playing a blu-ray.

I also have to have the CEC and ARC switched on in order to have the a/v auto sync

I'd play with the settings while you have 24fps running and see what happens.

Well i turned off the uhd color option on the tv. Seeing if that helps. Can’t keep the auto sync on. All the other components that go with it, keeps changing my input setting on the receiver to digital automatically every time (instead of hdmi 1).
