Best wishes, maybe you can get an X700, not that it's miles better, but it's a new model and they hopefully learned from the X800 experiences.
Yes, I think it's a laser failure, when I insert a disc it starts to spin (it doesn't come out on the same position I put them in) and then stops, it doesn't read the disc and if I push enter on the disc icon it says "No Disc" regardless if I insert a CD, SACD, DVD, BD or UHD BD.
I don't want an X-700, I hate how it looks, I just want a fully working and relliable X-800.

I've just started to have a error with my 800 this week telling me that my HDMI 1 is for Audio and HDMI 2 is for Video. The problem is that i already had it wired that way since my receiver doesn't have the 4K pass through, so basically i had to switch wires do it is backwards to what it is supposed to be.

So, you're not running HDMI 1 to your display?

Is it working good now, with the HDMI Out #1 to your display and the HDMI Out #2 to your receiver?

The video works but I seem to have lost my bitstream so everything is pcmcia. I'm going to try to reinstall firmware from flash drive to see if it will help.

Everything seems to be working but I still have it backwards to what i thought it was supposed to be with the Audio out of HDMI 2. I tried to reinstall firmware but don't think i had it on the flash drive correct (the 4 parts were in root folder but not the only things on the drive).

Angry Will The Hitman's Bodyguard 4K play on the Sony X800?

Then they say “ok, return movie, but ask for a different movie.” What?? I tell them that that is unacceptable to have a player that only plays some 4K movies. They then give me the warranty number.

Then I call the Warranty number and after being on phone for 30 min, I get disconnected. I can’t believe this is how Sony treats their customers! I am sooo frustrated!!
Got on the phone with Sony again today to try and resolve my issue (3 brand new copies of The Hitman's Bodyguard all lock up player). After telling the Customer Service person that other 4K movies work, I was told that the player is working as expected. I said "no, it won't play The Hitman's Bodyguard! Is the player only supposed to play some 4K movies?" I was told that since other 4K movies play, it must be a problem with that movie. Now I'm steaming mad! I hang up and call back, and eventually get connected to someone at Sony that agrees (he said he actually just watched that movie) that the player shouldn't lock up when playing that movie. Talked to him for awhile, but had to leave to pick up my daughter. He assured me that this case would be escalated (previous folks told me that there was nothing they could do).

Has anyone else tried playing The Hitman's Bodyguard 4k disk in the X800? I saw someone commented that the rental version played fine. I was hoping other folks purchased a 4K copy that plays fine on the X800, so I know i'm not expecting too much from this player.

Ok, so what happens if you set the output resolution to 4K instead of auto? It doesn’t upscale regular blu-rays?

My copy of The Hitman's Bodyguard works flawlessly. In fact, I haven't had any problems with my player. Sounds like you are having some pretty bad luck with yours. I imagine that must be very frustrating. Hopefully you get the problem resolved soon.

Thanks for the feedback! I thought it was crazy that Sony was telling me that not all 4K movies will play on the X800! I’m still trying to resolve the issue with the support folks at Sony. I hope to have a player that works soon!

If other movies all work it is likely a problem with the disc. Have you already exchanged it?

Maybe check your connections. Actually pull them out n plug them back in. Maybe the HDMI isn't fully pushed in, and that is the disc that's having the most problems. Another suggestion would be trying to turn off the internet from the player. Worth a try. Other than that, I don't know what else could be affecting that particular movie.

Curious as to what you guys think. For years I watched blu-rays with the 24p function turned OFF. Watched them in 1080/60p

Now that I turned it on and I’m getting used to it, would that cause me to think the a/v sync is off? But in reality, I’m finally seeing and hearing blu-rays the way they’re meant to be seen (1080/24p)?

The 24 frames function was terrible back in the day but it’s a lot better now.

Yeah, it really was. When the shift from 1080i/60fps to 1080p/24fps in 2007-2008 happened it was a mishmash of problems across the display manufacturers. It wasn't until about 2010 that 1080p/24fps was free of jutter and sync issues across the board.

I have an x800 connected to an LG C7P. The display reading is giving me 2160p with the following settings:

Output Video Resolution —> Auto with 4K Upscale Setting —> Auto1
Output Video Resolution —> Auto with 4K Upscale Setting —> Auto2
Output Video Resolution —>4K with 4K Upscale Seteting —> Off

Does this mean that either of these three settings is fine for upscaling of blurays and dvds?

Indeedy. I think we'd be surprised as to how many people still steer clear of 24p playback because of legacy tech issues like this. A lot of those earlier flatscreen TVs having 60Hz panels was the killer, you just can't fit 24 into 60 without inducing dat 3:2 pulldown. But now we've got 120Hz panels they're a perfect fit for 24p content.

Is there a 4k TV that supports 120Hz refresh rate at 4k resolution through HDMI?

Dunno. Some can do 1080p120 but 4K120? Readers, it's over to you.
