I believe this machine was released before the Dolby Vision specification was complete. Can't blame Sony for that.

I have the UBP-X700. Has anyone tried 'Blue Earth II' or 'Blue Planet II' with this player? It can't seem to resume playback if you exit out of the disc app because you turned off the player or switched back to home screen. It just doesn't do it, it forces you back to the start of the disc.

Very few (if any) BBC America versions of Blu-Rays (and I assume 4K) have the resume function on their discs and after realizing that I've just started ordering anything BBC from Amazon UK for the BBC UK version which so far has had it on every Blu-ray I've bought. I've order Blue Planet II on 4K but it hasn't arrived yet to see if the trend carries over to their 4K releases also. One other note about the UK Blu-ray releases is that some have audio directions on them to help the blind enjoy their videos (I know that it might seem silly to some).

Resume playback is disc dependant, not the player. This has been covered a million times. If the disc is authored with resume playback, the player will resume. Some of the older discs specially from WB requires persistent memory for the resume playback to work, in which case you'll need to insert an USB memory stick in the Sony player for it to work.

This old, ancient thread even discusses it(from 2009): http://www.handcoding.com/archives/2...s-dont-resume/ However. How can a person be expected to buy a 4K documentary that is hours long and not have resume functionality? I never watch a documentary all in one go, I watch it in chunks over days and BBC just lost 2 sales. Also I'm sensing anger from some users here from me pointing out the resume issue. Why is that - why are you defending this terrible industry practice? I mean if this 4K documentary was available on iTunes/Amazon that would mitigate things, but it isn't. You are forced to by the physical disc if you want 4K. |

I misunderstood, my apologies. I thought you were blaming the player for the lack of resume playback. I agree with you 200%. Resume playback is a convenient feature and should be authored on every disc. It's always been IMO one of the cons of the Blu ray format.

Many of the mulit-region modded players specify that they are also multi-votage capable, i.e. 110 - 240 V. Does anyone know if the unmodified players from the US are okay at 220 V? I have seen one person in this thread mention it isn't an issue, but was hoping for verification before purchasing a stock unit in the states and bringing it back to Europe with me, as that would be an downer to fry it when I plugged it in.

Given a choice, I would pay more for a player or disc that has such features, but not a lot more. I guess it would depend on how much it would add to the cost. |
