I finally got a chance to play with this thing last night, doing some testing on DVD upscaling and finally watching some UHD content on my not 4k tv. I love this player, it excels at everything I throw at it. I've seen some of the best picture quality I've ever had on this tired old tv, I'm amazed.
Standard Blu-ray is the same as anything else, but the way this handles upscaling DVD and downscaling 4k and doing the SDR conversion is fantastic. |

Maybe somewhere here can help me...
I upgraded my system back in November. Very novice with this stuff. I received two 4K discs for free and at the time I thought they looked good when I tested them out. I started to buy some more and am just getting around to watching the full movies and the 4K discs look much darker than the Blu-ray. I watched GoTG Vol. 2 the other day and it was so dark. I watched The Last Jedi last night and actually took the 4K disc out and finished watching the Blu because it was just so noticeably darker. What is wrong? Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing or overlooking that should be enabled or disabled? Are there settings on two of the components that are working against each other? I have: Sony XBR75X900E 75" 4K X-1 LED TV Sony UBP-X800 4K UHD Blu-ray player Denon AVR-X2300W I've watched 4K (with HDR10, setting is on Auto) things via apps through the TV and it is darker, but not like this... as far as I can tell. |

Your TV likely needs seperate calibration for SDR and HDR modes. |

From what I have read, those settings are not to be used when viewing HDR. If you check the attachment, it mentions that the brightness should switch to max among other things when HDR is detected. If you have entered in the SDR settings for HDR content, that could be the problem.
Nevermind, I cannot attached the photo at a reasonable size so what I am referring to is this text: When HDR content is detected the TV should switch automatically to the good settings, but if you want to be sure you can verify that the 'Brightness' is set to max, that ' Auto local dimming' is set to 'High' and that 'X-tended Dynamic Range' is set to 'High'. In the 'Video options', just verify that 'HDR mode', 'HDMI video range' and 'Color space' are set to 'Auto' and it should change automatically to match the type of content you are watching, in this case, HDR content. Thats the only changes you should make for HDR content, under the "video options" |

So it turns out the enhanced HDMI input was not on. I turned that on and it is working now.
But the issue I have now is, when this is enabled, I'm not getting sound when I switch to Cable on my Receiver. So I guess I need to find a setting on the receiver now. Sorry I posted this in the forum for the player. I thought that is where the issue was from originally. |

Not sure what causes these cable boxes to be incomparable but I had this problem with the same exact boxes hooked to a KS8000 and now an X930E |

With OPPO Digital INC now stopping production of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players soon. As far as I am aware the Sony UBP-X800 is the only other brand and model of 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players that offers SACD and DVD-Audio support.
There is so much competition in the market, people purchasing a Sony UBP-X800 last year for around $149.99, was no competition for an OPPO UDP-203 that was priced at $549. I like both the OPPO and Sony, but the OPPO is definitely a better player. |
