Then after reading more and more the relatively good success people were having using dish soap and a dry clean, from problems reading some of them 4K discs, it sure works as a good recommendation. ...If you don't have one of those machines above (roughly $20, or less..$10) as Nothing just posted. I don't need a broken 4K Blu-ray player, I don't need to be without a disc cleaning machine, I don't need nothing to recommend good things. That's all. If some people aren't happy, they can stress themselves all they want over say @ the tavern? ___ I'm happy with the Sony X800 player, and I would also recommend the Oppo 203 and 205 to anyone shopping in those price brackets. If the player, any 4K player, freezes on some 4K discs, dish soap I sure would mention it. Bob Pariseau is my Oppo guru, he recommended it to many Oppo 203 and 205 owners, he's the guy who knows and push the Oppo players, who trained other Oppo helpers, he's an AVS guy, that's his job to help sales and owners and future owners. We rely on people of knowledge, we learn from them, we learn to know who to trust, we become owners, we become teachers, others learn how much they can trust us. The Sony 800 I paid $200 Canadian dollars. ...Before tax. The Oppo 205 I paid $1,750 Canadian dollars. ...Before tax. I went for the Sony as my 2nd player; the Oppo 203 I didn't need all the stuff, and I wanted apps in my 2nd player, and the 203 was $800 Canadian total with tax and shipping. ...Roughly four times more than the Sony X800, which has apps. Dolby Vision? That too I didn't need, and if others dont need it either I would recommend the Sony X800 4K BR player. ___ If you want some of the best sound using stereo analog outputs, if you like listening to music with headphones, if you like to have a USB DAC, ...if you choose life over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Netflix, Amazon, CNN, FOX, Vudu Hulu, ...I would recommend the Oppo 205. If you want the best amps and preamps, stereo and multichannel I would express my opinion, offer some suggestions. If a girl atop a bridge was about to commit suicide I would interfere with her plan, and offer her a better escape plan. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 04-06-2018 at 12:31 AM. |

Do you like Documentaries, even if it's only on Blu-ray and not on 4K Blu-ray?
I recommend this one: ![]() |

I have had the x800 and the launch Samsung. I was wanting to upgrade to the oppo but it kinda scares me now. I remember when blu ray players updated to profile 2.0, there was a company named oliva from some where in the uk, that came to the states. I remember people bought them like crazy. They closed down shop and all those players are now paper weights for blu rays that are 2.0 no updates. I remember people trying to return the players or ask me what was wrong with there player. I really want a oppo but I just don't want to end up like the people that bought the oliva brand players.

So, I am getting a noticeably sharper image from my PS4 playing a regular Blu ray disc at 1080P than I am from a dedicated UHD player (Sony UBP-X800) playing a UHD disk? What could possibly be happening? The color on the UHD is certainly better, there is no comparison even though my current tv doesn't have HDR. The PS4 definitely doesn't stand a chance there, but when flipping back and forth between the two inputs I noticed that the UHD image seemed to have less resolution and everything seemed to be "softer" and less sharp. I though it might be a picture setting between the 2 inputs and so I set everything the same for both inputs. No change. I also made sure that both were plugged into an HDCP 2.2 input (just to make sure everything was the same) and they were. I even got a newer hdmi cable (even though I probably didn't need to) and that didn't change anything either. I even bring up the input information for both on the TV and when watching the ps4 my TV confirms that it's a 1080P signal and when I'm using the UHD play my TV confirms that it's a 2160P input. I am completely stumped. To top it all off. I added the UHD digital copies to my VUDU library and streamed them to my TV from the built in VUDU app and behold, true 4K (or at least what I think is true 4K). The colors were rich and the resolution was very sharp. Switched back and forth to my ps4 and while the sharpness of the streaming UHD was way better than using the dedicated UHD player I still didn't notice anything amazingly different when comparing the streaming UHD to the PS4, but the streaming did look a little more crisp. Hands down the 4k content has better color though. I am running a Vizio M70-C3 4K TV. My ps4 is the basic ps4. The UHD player is the Sony UBP-X800. The movie I was using for comparison was Fantastic Beasts. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Does any even have a clue as to what's wrong?

I bought it a couple of weeks ago on Amazon for $230, thanks to advice from the HDR forum gang.
I was at a Target here in San Antonio last week. They had it...for I @#$% you not....$299, "marked down on sale" to $249. I wasn't even aware of the good rep of the player, but thanks to the great help and recommendations from the Blu-Ray HDR Forum guys, and after taxes, and shipping and the warranty (I know, I'm an idiot for buying a warranty, but the warranty price was cheaper than hot wings at the bar down the street, so screw it) price to the door was $230. I probably could have saved the $30 on shipping, taxes and warranty. You should be looking for the unit in the $200 range, in other words. That's where it seems to be. Now watch the damn thing drop to sixty bucks. Having said that, I'm watching old blu-ray titles and even DVDs from 20 years ago and my eyeballs are melting. I finally got my x800 last Friday and I love it. Over the weekend my wife and I played a few Blu ray movies on it and I can report no freeze up's no lock ups ect. The Blu ray movie The Shallow's looked gorgeous on my x900e as well as a few episodes of Planet Earth II while playing them through my new Blu ray player. Streaming a few movies looked very very good as well through the Vudu app. I paid $150 for my x800 and it was money well spent so far.

I tend to use Youtube a lot on my Sony X800, and recently it will no longer launch the app. The logo comes up, and nothing after that. I checked and it looks to be updated to the most recent firmware. Also, no issues with other apps like Hulu, Amazon, or Netflix, etc., just Youtube. Anyone else with this issue, or a solve? Thanks in advance.

Same here with the Youtube app. I even pulled the plug on the unit for 10 minutes and no luck.
Looks like we might need to do a factory reset: https://productforums.google.com/for...be/ngqH7Ue5Hqw You do not have to factory reset whole device, initializing personal information is enough. Last edited by Bodyslide; 04-10-2018 at 11:43 AM. |

This player really should be getting discounted more heavily as it has been replaced by the X700 model, which has been promised a Dolby Vision update this summer (although Sony has been known to really let that kind of promise slide on the TV side, but Hey, it's 2018, maybe they'll do better!) ![]() By this next BF, these should be on close-outs, or maybe even OOS, I predict IMHO. |
