My X800 won’t remember its place in Saturday Night Fever Director’s Cut when I power off the player using the remote. Anybody know why that is? It worked fine on other Blu-rays.

If a disc is encoded with BD-J then the player won't be able to use its own 'last played' memory so we're reliant on the studios to put a Java applet (or whatever the **** they're called) on the disc so that it will trigger its own "do you want to resume?" menu when you play it again. Unfortunately Paramount have been dicks about this this lately because their discs use BD-J - so no player resume - yet they don't have their own resume applet programmed onto the disc. So you have to start them up from cold every...damned...time. Most of the other major studios have these Java resume functions on their discs (Sony, Fox, Disney and Warners spring to mind) but Par, for whatever reasons, do not.

Don't you get to create bookmarks by pressing the green button? I will check with my X-800 and the 40th Anniversary edition of Saturday Night Fever.

Even if that feature's on there you still have to go through the entire start-up from cold to reach the main menu where your bookmarks can be selected from the scene select menu, there's no resume feature upon loading the disc like pretty much every other studio does at this point.

Exactly. And many discs I've noticed don't even have the green button bookmark option. More seem to have the BD-J capability you mention.

However, many do bypass the startup entirely and go straight to the "Do you wish to continue? Yes or No" where it last left off.

Yes, some have the resume programmed in right from startup while on others you've still got sit through a logo or two, it's all slightly different from studio to studio but it's still better than having no resume feature whatsoever though. Paramount have nada.

Aye, Paramount be the ones. I'll keep an eye out for that. Good to know.

Edit: Sony seems to be the quickest startup at least as far as I've noticed recently.

I see what I did there.
Maybe it's a familial thing with Sony.

Another thing to consider is that Sony players do not have persistent memory. Some older titles like Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Matrix to named a few, will not ask you to resume playback unless you plug in a USB flash drive on the player. Since Sony decided to remove the USB port from the back of their players long ago, you're stuck with a front USB port. God I hate Sony sometimes....

You could buy players with built-in flash storage (I have a few BDs that won't play at all without it) 15 years ago, but I don't think any players have that today because the manufacturers are too cheap. Naturally, as you note, the manufacturers put the USB port on the front which is not only ugly, but they also stupidly don't design the flip cover for the port to have room for a low-profile flash drive.

Indeedy. But even with a player that has persistent memory these current Paramount discs simply do not have any kind of resume feature.

was the second SONY X-800 it had in the space of a month

the problem was always the same, I used it only to play DVD movies and 2 or 3 on Blu-ray and after 30 hours +/- went into hibernation, receiving no operation from the remore control

now I am observing the new line 2018 of PANASONIC the DP-UB9000, or UB 820 or UB420

Thank you

I had the same issue with my X800. A poster here recommended that I reset to default settings and for the most part that has worked. The DVD's and Blu-rays that were doing this seem to have stopped, however the issue still persists when I am watching a file off a USB which luckily, isn't a big deal for me.

Its too bad since this is a well designed player and for the most part, works great. I am hoping that eventual firmware updates will fix the issues (such as certain Warner titles freezing/skipping which is a widespread problem) that I have been having.

I skimmed over the thread, but I hope the VUDU app gets updated soon, I really would like to have the Atmos soundtrack to a few streaming titles.

Of course, of course. I'm sure UHD is right around the corner too.

Default Black Panther 4k disc wont play?

Hi Guys,

Is anyone having any issues playing the 4K disc on the Sony UBP X800? Firmware is up-to-date. I unplugged and reset everything too.

Strangely enough, it works totally fine on my Samsung UBD K8500.

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

I'm thinking about getting this as my UHD player. How much of a picture quality boost would I see going from an Xbox One X to this. I know the X lacks Dolby Vision. I'm just wondering if the picture quality would be worth the expense.

Just finished watching my copy on the X800 and didn't have any problems. Try turning off 24p and see if that helps. What kind of problems are you having exactly?
