Hey Nebula...it just sits on the main sony screen for a few minutes. The player makes some noise like its trying to read the disc. I tried turning off the 24p and no dice

Tested my 4K copy for a little while and didn't have any problems with playback. It did skip to chapter 6 when I selected the "play movie" option in the main menu. I was able to go to chapters and start at the beginning of the movie with no issues. Also, flipped through chapters a bit to see if there were any loading issues. Everything seems to be working well and the movie looks great in 4K.

Sorry to hear about the issues are having. I had a loud noise issue when I purchased Pacific Rim 4K a while back. It ended up being a small chip in along the edge of the disc. Weird that you are able to get playback on the Samsung player though. I would try returning the disc and see if you have a similar issue with a different one.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all of your replies and feedback. I appreciate it. So I think something strange is happening with my player because now I can barely get any 4K discs to work! Started with Black Panther but after trying some other movies, I was then encountering the same issue. I tried Guardians 2, The Last Jedi, Wonder Woman, Ghostbusters and had the same issue. The only one I could get to work was Blade Runner 2049 of all things. I played around with all of the settings, and even did a factory reset and nothing seemed to work. I am out of the warranty range unfortunately, but I will contact Sony to see what they say! |

That or like MooneyRara said above, unplug the 800 from the wall outlet, and plug it back on after 30 seconds. Disconnect the internet, wire or wireless, before you unplug it.
- Control for HDMI: Off - Auto Home Network Access Permission: Off - Remote Start: Off - Bluetooth Mode: Off - Network content: Off - BD Internet Connection: Do not allow - Linked to TV-off: Invalid • Check that all your cables are fully inserted. This is only a test, before you declare your player "kaput"..."fubar". Last edited by LordoftheRings; 05-17-2018 at 01:53 AM. |

I too experienced another hard-lockup the other night. I was instantly aware of what had probably happened again when I woke up yesterday and saw the system with the little green light on. I tried everything but the player was unresponsive. Had to unplug it and the system lost all its settings (factory reset itself?). First time this has happened on the new set since I got it replaced in January. *sigh*
I'm going with the tips that other people have posted in keeping it off the internet, turning off all auto-HDMI stuff, and wireless capabilities. Hopefully that power deprivation solves the issue. Here I was so glad that I hadn't had any issues with my player since replacing it. Oh well. Hopefully these new tactics work. At least it still reads discs. |

If it's fubar and you're out of warranty, and Sony said sorry, just buy the 203 before they're gone for good later on this summer. Or wait for the new Panny players coming up. 4K players are disposable assets. ...They come, they go, some last longer like Oppo, others shorter like the rest.
Some like plastic, others full metal jacket. |

About the 4K BR picture quality, better than 203/205 and 800?

I've got the X800 playing through the Sony XBR-65X850D tv. When I watch 4K movies on 4K disc (such as John Wick 2), or stream 4K movies (Manchester By the Sea on Amazon Prime, through an Apple 4K TV, the dark scenes look washed out. Dark scenes in HD movies look perfect (black, contrasty). Is there a setting I need to look at? I love the picture quality of 4K, but it drives me crazy when a dark scene in the movie comes on, and it looks like someone is shining a flashlight at a movie screen, washing out the picture!
Thanks for any suggestions!! ![]() |

The TV set was advertised as 4K/HDR ready. I can't believe that HDR would look worse than HD on this tv for dark scenes! All other scenes on this set look great.
