Also, have a question on this player when paired with a Sony Soundbar.
I have this hooked up to a Sony HT-CT790, both the player and soundbar have similar options. Under Screen Settings, for color space I have the player set to YCbCr 4:2:2 (I have a Vizio M65-D0...not a true 12 bit panel or even 10 bit for the matter...8 bit + FRC). For the Soundbar it has similar options for the color space under Screen Settings. Question is should be color space settings mirror one another...i.e., should they both be set to YCbCr 4:2:2 or is it ok for the soundbar to be set to Auto, or does it even matter? Want to be sure no extra processing is happening at the soundbar that's unnecessary or if they have to match. thanks! |

I have the 800 and couldn't believe the difference in my 1080p discs. much more detail . I have been waiting to upgrade my TV but will only buy a 4k 3d tv. The only one I can really find now is the sony Z and thats like 4500 dollars . Just have to make do with my old 52 xbr.

I apologize if there’s a better thread for this question.
I watched Isle of Dogs last night and there were grayed out blocks of text that stayed on the screen until the next cut after they first appear in their full color. It only happens when I play the movie on my X800 (on both the BD and DVD), but not on my computer or PS4. Has anyone experienced something similar to this? Pics: [Show spoiler]

I would try changing the X800 upscale setting to "Original" (or "1080p" for BD) instead of "4K" or "Auto" if it's not already set that way. This is purely an acid test to determine if the X800 upscaling accounts for the delta exhibited by your PS4 or computer. Did you just get the unit? Have you tried other titles? If not, go ahead and spin some other discs. Have a good time! Enjoy. ![]() If this is a recurring problem with multiple discs, it's likely a result of your panel settings needing adjusted for the superior X800. ![]() Oh, and don't forget to change the upscale setting back to "Auto" when you're done. ![]() |

![]() Okay, so you've had it for a little while. I always prefer the player handling the upscaling but different strokes as the saying goes. ![]() Unless it's a show stopper I would just chalk it up to an anamoly for this particular title. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but better than driving yourself crazy over what amounts to a grand total of less than a minute? Sorry I couldn't be of greater assistance. ![]() |

The X-800 4K upscaling is lousy IMO. I have the video output set to Original Resolution and let my Samsung T.V. set do the upscaling, it just looks much better with more picture detail. The X-800 upscaling seems to apply some kind of DNR that renders a soft and fuzzy picture.

These instructions are on pp. 18-19 of the manual for the U.S. model. For audio which Sony labels DRC, that is under the Setup Menu, Audio Settings, Audio DRC and turn off for no compression (on p. 22 of manual). |
