I can make the same without missing a step claim about my X800, 1 year and 7 months, and so far, not one problem, not a single one. Although, I gotta say, feel kinda lucky, with the other claims being made about the X800. Then again, you can read lots of bad claims being made about lots of players. The more players of a certain model sold, I would guess the more claims you will see about problems with that model. Simple mathematics I suppose.

I'd never claim every X800 is broken obviously. All I can do is share my experience and that of others. It does seem to have a higher error rate than usual, and two in a row for me is concerning, but I'm sure for most it works just fine.

My X800 had freezing issues with a few DVDs, few BDs and maby some UHD also but with latest firmwares, and with watching only BDs and some UHDs I have had zero freezes in some 6 months or so.

Soooooooooo, basically the BD 100 discs are screwed up then eh?

Nope. Nothing wrong with the discs.

The only 100 disc i have is Skyscraper. I'll have to check that out. Luckily I only have the movie because my mom wanted it, and doesn't watch 4K (With no plans to any time soon) and i copped the 4K w/ BD set on BF from Walmart for like 8 bucks.

It is interesting; Skyscraper on 4K is only 102 minutes long and yet it's on a BD-100 (triple layer). No problemo with that disc, and same for the 3D version. Sony skates the ice like an ace of spade in the black space.

Skycraper is ALSO one of the few 4K's to have special feature's on it as well as the BD discs, so that could account for the extra space. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Skysc...209271/#Review

GRANTED it's 4K/SDR not 4K/HDR, but does anyone really expect bonus features to be in HDR?

Yes, but the film itself never passes the 2nd layer. Hence the metadata/memory buildup is avoided. The balance of the disc volume parsed as special features.

I see, 43 minutes of special features total. I never watch those, plus all the 4K discs don't include special features. Even 4K discs running 145 minutes long get two layers...not all but certainly a bunch.

Anyway, I prefer the 3D version, even with all the dark fiery scenes.
The day they stop making 3D Blu-ray players that'll be the day.

Tried to watch Blade Runner 2049 (UK copy) last night and in the remaining 2 hours I had left since I stopped it a few days ago, the player turned itself off 3-4 times.

What is happening with my Sony X800 exactly?

The first problem I ever experienced with a BD-100 was BR 2049. At around 2:05:00 the player skipped briefly and froze up.

This was also the first triple layer disc I played on my unit. I pulled the power like I described in an earlier post above. When I started the unit back up I went to the scene prior to see if I could replicate the error. But the disc played perfectly after that. The buildup was removed similar to a pressure valve being released.

You just gotta show the player who's the boss from time to time.

I agree; turn the player off, disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet, disconnect the HDMI cable(s) @ both ends, remove the USB stick (if one is plugged in), and reconnect everything back again securely.

The thing crashes even when not playing a film. I was navigating the menu last night and then there was a bright flash, followed by a split second of multicoloured image, and the player was just "dead". So its not even that its a disc causing the problems.

Which menu? The 'Home' page, or player settings? If that is occurring outside of an app, then your unit is likely defective.

I've never experienced anything like that simply navigating within the Sony menu.

Yep, just the player menu. Crashed.

Could it potentially be the HDMI cable? (Just clutching at straws here as the player has just gone out of warranty).

I get a memory buffer issue playing, say, Kevin Smith shows on YouTube, as in, wife out of town, falling asleep on a Saturday night and the thing is playing YouTube videos for hours and locking up, and that's happened a few times. Other than that, it's performed like a champ.

Possible if you're having issues everywhere. Easy way to find out is try another cable. Assuming you have a spare of course.

I agree 100%. I got used to my thumbnails on my PS4 and now feel that I am missing out on a feature that an older player had. I guess we won't ever at this point but something like this seems like a regression with the Sony product evolution. Guess it doesn't bother enough folks to matter.
