It just needs a firmware update? ...No new hardware necessary, right?
How is the Netflix app in this new Sony Universal 4K 3D BR player? Is it the best one of all the other 4K BR players out there with Netflix? From my older players, the Sony Netflix app is better than Samsung. Panasonic I don't know, I gave up with Panasonic, but now they're back with 4K, and they also include Netflix. I guess today you want to stream 4K from Netflix and with the best audio multichannel sound, and two HDMI outputs is the way to go. I recently checked from an older Samsung 3D BR player, and Netflix was awful, with the picture breaking up and with only stereo sound. It was very irritating. The main menu too was super boring, with fuggy tiny picture movie selections. What's the consensus among all 4K BR players as to which brand has the best Netflix app streaming performance and implementation and all options (best audio, subtitles and best 4K quality moving pictures)? |

Yes, it only needs a software update per Sony.
The Netflix app is great, it is 24hz, it has HDR and it has the debug popup to show what resolution you are getting (720, 1080, 2160). |

1. So if it needs only a firmware update for Dolby Vision; that would put it on a par with LG and Oppo. 2. With Netflix app @ the top echelon of performance and options, that would put it among the best...ahead of Oppo, and superior to LG perhaps? 3. With a list price of $299 that includes two freebie 4K BR movies that would put it in the great value category. 4. Only one pound short of the Oppo. 5. And it's a "Universal" player too (SACD & DVD-Audio) * I like your feedback from all the 4K BR players you tested so far. Are you going to test the Panasonic DMP-UB700 player? Is the Oppo 203 still your favorite? ...Or the Panasonic 900? ...The new Sony 800? ** If anyone's interested in a 4K BR players comparison thread...I'm reading... 1) Well, Sony has left it dangling, where LG and Oppo are committed to adding DV
2) Oppo of course has no apps; LG will not have apps on launch and has only named Netflix and Youtube with a future update, that is problematic for me |

I think it's because Sony wants to wait to see where Dolby Vision is going first.
If the investment in paying Dolby is worthwhile to Sony, and that it can sell a bunch load more 800, then the motivation to implement it through a future firmware update is there. Yes, Oppo has no apps, why I said "ahead of Oppo" in no. 2 above. ______ Are there internal pictures of the Sony 800 on the internet? |

"At a conference in Seoul, Dolby gave an update on its efforts to bring Dolby Vision into the living room. Dolby said that it now has 5 TV partners (and 3 more coming soon) and 6 Hollywood studios on board. More than 100 Dolby Vision titles will be available to enjoy in the home this year, according to Hilander."
Of cource VUDU App on 2016, 2017 LG OLED(other TV's too. Sony, Visio...) when you click Showcase(or Spotlight, Collections) then VUDU UHD... It will have currently 90 Dolby Vision movies available. For having most those you just have to redeem your 4K UHD Code there. Most are streamed in Dolby Vision and Atmos. Myself. Blu-Ray.com shows me where to buy these UHD Blu Ray disc at my personal sweetspot of $16-$20. Then If it's DV movie is on VUDU and can be redeemed to watch... I'D add it to my collection. Which so far has been from Warner, Universal, MGM, Paramont and possibly Liongate. Think I have like near 10 Dolby Vision 4K Atmos capable movies thus so far. On my LG E6 DV movies can be Stunning. Nothing really currently compares. PQ Amazing even at Ethernet 23 mbps. Seriously. When its this good. Watching DV. Streaming has much much positives. LG UP 970 at a very receint Germany trade Show(on Youtube) shows printed for Vendors that Amazon Video App is listed. With more Apps to come. Think smartly would be VUDU App with DV and Atmos like included with LG OLEDs, etc. Last edited by E6AtmosVuduDV; 03-16-2017 at 03:56 AM. Reason: Spelling correction, add 2016 year. For anyone that may be on the fence when it comes to purchasing this player just go ahead and buy it. I have owned The Samsung which had all sorts of issues, The Phillips which was good but PQ could of been better. The Oppo which was really good but had all sorts of issues from Audio drop outs to the disc tray not working right. To finally this Sony player and while I have only had it 48 hours I have played about 5 movies through it and After watching Passengers in 4K tonight this player is just as good as the Oppo with PQ and Sound without all the issues so far. Really glad I picked this up and sold my Oppo.

I just picked up this player over the weekend and have placed my Xbox One S up for sale. I was using the X1S primarily as my BD player, do my gaming on the PS4 and PC.
My 4K TV doesn't have HDR, what settings would be recommended? Also, my receive is not showing the DTS-HD MA or TrueHD on the screen, but when I check the info screen on the player it does show it. Is there a setting that I am missing here? I've watched several movies now since the weekend, and I notice one issue which might be a setting I am missing. There have been a few movies that I had to stop and come back to hours later or the next day, is there no resume feature on this player? If not, do we know if Sony plans to add that with FW? |

The resume function has worked perfect on mine so not sure what's going on there and as far as setting I'm sure you can leave most everything on auto and the player will take care of the rest. Some turn off deep color and others say to leave it on auto as well. |

I have the LG B6 oled. I'm coming from the Samsung K8500. The concensus with that player was to have deep color off because it caused banding. I'm more concerned about the best video settings for 4K HDR content. I read in another forum that deep color was for 10 bit SDR. Does anyone here have an OLED and what do you think is the best setting? Thanks in advance Adam

I prefer the Panasonic as well and almost return this Sony player. But reading through the last couple of pages on the Panny thread at the AVS forum scared me as I see some users saying their player is already having issues reading discs, and I thought, well, this is a well known issue with Panasonic players, they don't seem to last very long and it all starts with them not reading discs. IMO is not worth taking a $600 risk. Just a thought.

I have tried both regular and 4K BD's, none of them resume. I do have the latest updated FW too. I'll give this a shot again tonight and see if it works. Just the night before I was watching Indiana Jones and Crystal Skull. I stopped it halfway, turned the BD player off, and came back to it an hour later which it never resumed from the last scene I left off at. |

Help please. Many of you have listed below your main body post
listing of your Home Theater AV equipments. Which is separated by a border line. I imagine this area is a Sticky and not have to be reKeyed everytime. How can I setup the same? Many here also at the Top of their post... have a reference refer back quote. From which to... their post is responding. How does one pull that in? For their posting. I'm a Newbie. Thank you for any help. |

Does this player use SD cards by any chance or is it only USB flash drives? I was so in a hurry and excited to replace my XB1S with this player, that I totally forgot about adding a flash card. |
