Are you using a 4K display?

It looks like your tv is only capable of 1080P, so, that would be the reason. It has to be capable of reproducing a 4k signal, which yours is not. The UBP-X800 is capable of sensing that.

Are your video settings proper?
Screen Settings: • Output Video Resolution > Auto * Is this a new recent issue, did you change anything recently? HDMI cable is 4K good? Last edited by LordoftheRings; 08-17-2019 at 06:40 AM. |

If "Output Video Resolution" is set to force only 4K, then it does play in 4K/24p. The "Auto" setting doesn't. On my fourth HDMI cable...all 4K@60Hz, HDR, 18Gbps, 36AWG, YUV, 4:4:4. Been experiencing handshake/blackout issues...reason for testing so many HDMI cables. I think it is an issue with the player. Recently purchased both UBP-X800 and TCL 75R615 from Best Buy...return window is no longer available. |

Unplug your Sony X800 player from the AC wall outlet, and unplug your TCL TV the same.
Wait about a minute or two, then plug them back on. |

Mine shows as 1080/24p HDR All the settings are the same as yours except that I have Quick Start "on" I'm 100% sure my settings are all set correctly. The only way I do have 4K is when HDMI Output is set to 4K only...instead of AUTO. I don't think that this is correct and there seems to be an issue with mine. I appreciate all your help. |

You have nothing to lose by selecting Off for Quick Start Mode.
It's not the law, it's a suggestion. Did you try? Then do a reset after you select Off from On. Also: • BD Internet Connection: Do not allow • Control for HDMI: Off |

Not sure if it is relevant to my issue, but willing to give it a try. I have the UBP-X800 HDMI output to the LG SK10Y soundbar and LG to HDMI (ARC) on TCL 75R615...will this effect the power on/off with "Control for HDMI" turned off? Mine is set to On and Valid. Thanks for the advice so far. |

I there a way to have the player give a 4K signal WITHOUT the HDR turned on? I would turn off HDR, have my output set at 4K, and yet the player outputs at 1080p instead. What's to give? My Apple TV is able to play 4K content fine when I have the HDR mode set off, yet the Sony player doesn't seem to allow it, unless I've missed something?

Not an issue with LG soundbar...unfortunately. Going to contact Sony regarding the issue and see what they have to say. Just don't want to go through the hassle with warranty process. Locating Authorized Sony Service and all. |

I guess the Sony X800 4K BR player does not allow that functionality (I've checked the manual). That's unfortunate, and unusual/intriguing that issue. Please let us know of future development. |

The reason I want HDR turned off is because my Sony TV is frankly shitty with HDR, especially when it comes to dark scenes. I rather settle with SDR 4K until I either buy a player that can turn HDR off or buy a new TV that can give me true blacks in HDR, and neither option is financially possible for several decades. |

Yesterday I got a new Sony A8G as well as well as a Sony UBPX800 4K player. Now my receiver is a Pioneer VSX-52, so there's no 4K pass-thru or anything, but I noticed when I'm playing a 4K disc, whether it's passing through the receiver or HDMI directly to the TV, if I press "Display" on the blu-ray player remote or the TV remote, both say 1080p displaying and not 2160p. It does say HDR however, so I'm a little confused as to if I am getting the full 4K picture or not?
