Just replied to your PM, but did not notice that you pressed the "Display" button on the Sony remote control and it shows 1080p. That means your Pioneer VSX-52 is not passing the 4K HDR signal.
Your best solution is to connect the video out HDMI from the X800 BD player directly to your A8G and the 2nd HDMI audio only from the X800 BD player to your Pioneer VSX52 receiver. |

But your player doesn't do Dolby Vision. I'm unsure if you're aware of having a tv that does it, but not the 800. Again, beauty tv! |

I have the Sony UBP-X800, purchased a bit less than two years ago. All of a sudden, it will no longer play blu-ray and 4K disks ... but it will play DVD's. When trying to play a BR or 4K, it either has a blank screen with sound, or a screen that displays and then fades out continuously with sound. I have reset to factory settings and it has been upgraded over the internet. I have also replaced the HDMI cable running from the machine to my AVR. I have also swapped out the HDMI cable on the back of my AVR to another HDMI in, but same results. The thing was working fine a couple of days ago when I watched a 4K movie, then last night this all started up. Any suggestions/info will be greatly appreciate! Bob

Can you run the HDMI cable (Video/Audio) directly from the X800 to your display?
...Just to verify if you get a picture from Blu-rays 1080p and 4K. |

You said that you have done a factory settings reset.
Are your video settings complying with the display you are using? ...4K TV, 2K TV, 4K projector, 2K projector. Unplug the Sony from the wall outlet, but first unplug the HDMI cable from it. Wait one minute, plug back the HDMI cable then the power cord. |

I did as you suggested (unplugging/plugging back in), but with the same results. Am beginning to think it can only be one of two problems ... either the laser lens does need cleaning or a malfunction/problem with the player itself. Thanks for your time and suggestions, I appreciate it! |

Since 2017 a family member that I know has owned two Sony UBP-X800 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, and they use them almost everyday of the week, and not once has it locked up when playing an optical disc including 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray, DVD, or audio CD. The optical transport has been flawless. However, like other brands and models of Blu-ray players on the market that offer streaming services, once and awhile I was informed that when using the built in streaming services like Netflix once and awhile the Sony does lock up and the power cord needed to be pulled and plugged back in. However even on an old OPPO UDP-103D I remember the built in streaming features locked up once and awhile and the power cord needed pulled and plugged back in to reset the player.
The funny thing is this family member has a Roku Ultra in that room and since its so small they forgot it was connected for almost a year. They are now using the Sony UBP-X800 for optical disc playing and the Roku Ultra for streaming. Nothing beats the Roku Ultra for reliability when it comes to streaming. |

You don't need to spend $30 for a Blu-ray lens cleaner, some are available for less than $10 ...
• https://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Super...25ZMPQ?ie=UTF8 If it doesn't work there is this alternative ... • https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-UPX-1-...edirect=mobile _____ Extra (Certified HDMI cable) ... • https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15428 • https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-115.../dp/B01GCGKI3O Last edited by LordoftheRings; 09-16-2019 at 05:24 AM. |

Generally the lens cleaner will work for spotty (intermittent) performance. I hope it works for you but the symptoms you describe lead me to believe it may be more serious than a dirty lens.

Same here, I suspect the disc drive.
On Boxing Day the Sony X800M2 will be on sale for $149 or so. The older X800 we might see it for $99 (on clearance). I would contact Sony and check if they can accommodate you. |
