I had buy this 400$ SONY UBP-X800 last year and taken to India. I had paid customs of 130$ as the officer said Latest SONY 4K player.
When i switch on the player started Update M36.R.0338 and after updated machine, Amazing thing happened Only Netflix and Youtube was in App. and All the other Opera Tv, VeWD app erased now i can,t download even Amazon Video or Prime, VuDU, etc. And when i play the disc in the center of timeline 55.00 min to 1.10 min. it Hangs the player and No switch work on panel. I had to switch the power off from main. Than it plays. I had GIEC twin Hdmi 4K 3D player very cheap around 120 $ machine bought from Shenzhen China. It never hangs the disc and even plays the scratch disc that Sony not able to play seamlessly. Even it play all app you can download it open source not locked. I don,t know why they lock region although 4K disc dont have region. so why app have lock if available in India player should download. Sony which was good in integrating things before is losing it charm. I raised the issue SONY service centre but don't get any solution. So i had buyed Amazon 4K Fire Tv Stick. |

I’ve had my player since launch day and just last week noticed it won’t play ANYTHING. If I put a disc in (4K, Blu, DVD) it will recognize the title of the disc, but when I click on it (via Enter or Play) it does nothing. Same if I try to click on ANY app. It recognizes the click and then locks up for a second and acts like I’ve never pressed a button. Tried factory reset and updating firmware. Even tried different different HDMI cables and powering it on in different rooms (directly to wall vs adapter).
I think I’m SOL on this one. Probably going to snag a X700 for cheap off eBay unless someone else has ran into this problem and managed to fix it? |

I purchased two of these units. The first was purchased in April of last year and the second in October on clearance with a lower serial number than the first. The second unit has never given me any problems and is used with a Vizio tv. The first one exhibits the same behavior as in your post and is used with a Sony XBR. The green light will be on sometimes by itself but when checking the tv, there is nothing on the screen and only unplugging the unit for a minute or so and then plugging it back in will it come back up. However, it usually loses all of the settings such as your network settings, Quickstart on/off etc. so you end up going back and fixing all of that. It then usually worked fine for around two months or so and it would do it again. So back it went to BB for an exchange as I had an extended warranty. It did not have a problem with freezing while playing discs and since I don't stream much, I can't comment on that part.
These are great units overall but some part is obviously lacking. As many of you have done, I tried changing the Quickstart mode, changed cables, turned off Bluetooth etc. but none of that made any difference with the first unit. I even left it off the network after the last two times to see if that would make a difference as I don't stream much at all so it wouldn't matter but that didn't help either. All updates were current as well as firmware like my second unit which has never frozen nor comes on by itself and appears "dead." I hope my new Sony UPB-X800M2 which replaces the first X800 will be an improvement. |

I ordered a refurbished UBP-X800M2 from Amazon (Secondipity) and received the UBP-X800 instead.
I paid $167.24 total. They are offering me a partial refund of $50 if I want to keep it instead of returning it. Not sure what I should do...is it worth keeping? |

Already own the X800M2, but decided to purchase another for the plasma for 4K HDR to HD SDR down conversion. Dolby Vision isn't a priority at the moment. Figured $110 for it ain't too bad. |

Hi All, first post
![]() Ive owned the x800 for about a year, its hands down the worst player i have ever owned for reliability. It freeezes quite often during movies and the other day the menu music on my 4k and blu ray discs kept stuttering but the film audio played fine. i contacted sony who told me to reset it to factory settings and unplug it for 2 hours. the factory reset fixed the menu audio but it still freezes on certain movies where as others play fine. Seems its quite a common issue for this player. The annoying thing is that when it wants to work properly, i cant really fault it. im tempted to bin it and get a new one that supports HDR10+ as this is the highest HDR format my TV supports (Q9FN) but no DV. |

i suppose its just the luck of the draw as others i have spoken to also have no issues but others do. the people with the problems will be the most vocal.

Switch the Sony to bitstream for Dolby Atmos and DTS X. If your A/V receiver is a older model it will play the core track as 7.1 Dolby TrueHD instead of Dolby ATMOS and 7.1 DTS-HD Master audio instead of DTS X.

Seller is now selling the UPB-X800 for $99.00 (manufacturer refurbished) and we have agreed that a partial refund of $32.00 is acceptable for the difference. Which actually brings my pocket cost down to $80 for the player. Definitely, worth all the trouble in my book. |

If you're going to downconvert your UHD BD's to 1080p and HDR to SDR with this player I'd rather watch the good old 1080p BD included with most UHD BD releases. |

Either I'm going blind or something else, but HDR downconverted to SDR doesn't seem that bad of a downgrade...on my plasma. I now have a choice of which version of the movie (4K to HD or 1080p) I want to view with this player. Not much of a deal breaker for me anyways. Turned out that the seller gave me a bit more than agreed and ends up to be $76 for the player. |
