So over this player.....It locks up weekly, makes me absolutely crazy. Had one, Sony replaced it, same issues. Locks up on Netflix, blu rays, 4ks, Vudu......absolutely hate the thing but refuse to put money somewhere else since it works 95% of the time

How is the newer M2 version of this player? I was considering moving this one to our basement and getting the new M2. Has the M2 been good or same issues? |

I had tried that too as far as the internet, turning off Quickstart etc. There does not seem to be one thing that works if you have one of the problem units.

i probably wouldnt and that as a x800 owner. unless you have the need for wifi and/or the second hdmi. i'd personally consider an upgrade being one that includes dolby vision which this doesnt.

Got a chance to get one these players for a good price. My problem is that my receiver is non 4k, 1080p. From extensive search I am somewhat convinced that my receiver will not be able to accept the audio only port from this player. Reason is that it is HDMI 1.3... Do not understand why but I have found a couple posts about this but not much "detail". HDMI 1.3 was able to accept loseless formats, which is why I am stumped. Receiver is an Onkyo circa 2008. Anyone use or try an older receiver, specifically hdmi 1.3? Currently using 4k content, but toslink for audio... Finding about these players were a dream come true, as I'm not in the market to replace receiver. Only other reasonable option is the AVR Key. Or Multichannel input (but no receiver processing and only found on more expensive models). Maybe in the Order of turning the components on? Reverse order from the source--tv->avr->player? Certified cables?

The ideal setup one should replace their A/V receiver with a new model that passes 4K HDCP 2.2-2.3 signals. However if you are not ready for a A/V receiver upgrade and you currently own a 4K display, then use the dedicated second HDMI port on the Sony that is made for bitstreamig audio only. The audio only HDMI port on the Sony is 100% compatible with older A/V receivers with standard HDCP. However everytime you use your Blu-ray player you have to manually switch the TV to a different HDMI input and the A/V receiver to the Blu-ray input. That is the advantage of the new A/V receiver that supports 8K or 4K, the switching of video and audio signals is easier.
If your receiver does not support HDMI lossless audio then it should support legacy optical or coaxial lossy audio. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 06-27-2020 at 03:47 PM. |

My original X800 seems to crapping out. It's been going down-hill for weeks.
Trying to get a movie to work is like 20 minutes of frustration. It reset itself to Factory Defaults after one troubled session, but it's still loco. Can't even get the player Home Screen on my TV anymore, much less watch movies. I have an Xbox One S with 4K player, might have to give that box a shot now. |

Well after multiple posts on other forums and even on this thread, I found that HDMI 1.3 will work for me. No issues. Even though it shouldn't matter, 1.3 has had issues for others and did not for me. I don't know if anyone is using older equipment but it works for this. Hardest part is finding out how to turn the HDMI OUT off. You must turn this off so that the receiver will still pass audio, when the tv is not on that input. Worst case scenario use the receivers "monitor out" with just a composite cable connected to trip the receiver to play sound. Not that many are using this hdmi 2 port, but the information is here. CD upsampled to 88khz, trueHD, Master Audio worked fine. Now I just wish it would pass Dolby Digital Plus for netflix, as my older 2013 sony player will, and had a dedicated spotify app, or tidal as it can pass "hi res"....but both these are not what this player is about
