My player has also eventually detected the new firmware to download from the server.

My player is now a brick after only a year of having it. Won’t turn on and no lights.

Has this happened to anyone else? I couldn’t see any good troubleshooting via Google or YouTube.

Check the power strip and try unplugging player power cord and plugging it back in. Make sure AC outlet has power and players power cord is not damaged. Disconnect all cables and try plugging player in another power outlet.

My player is still going strong since purchasing it in Nov-2017. However, the usage has gone down for the past 6 months or so, after I ripped all my 4K and BR collection to a NAS/PLEX setup.

When I'm playing a disc that does not have Dolby Vision, the X800M2 is outputting Dolby Vision. Is there not a way to have it automatically detect whether a disc has HDR10 or Dolby Vision?

Nope. You'll have to manually turn it on and off. One of the main negatives of this otherwise fine player and Sony have not shown any interest at all in fixing it.

is anyone else having problem with the HDR function after the new software update? It seems like I have to keep turning my player on and off before I get the HDR to show up.

I've that problem with any quadraphonic discs. But I think, the reason is in receiver. Player itself shows 4 channels in display function.
Bying new receiver is too expencive for me at that moment. I solve this by extracting video/audio tracks, and then making new blu-rays (only for home using), 5.1 mix with silent tracks in Central and LFE channels.

Life in Surround’s receiver does support native 4.0-channel signals. When he plays the disc on his OPPO machine, his receiver recognizes the signal and plays it perfectly. He cannot get the Sony to do the same with a Blu-ray Disc. However, when playing a 4.0-channel Super Audio CD, going into the player’s setup menu and then going back out somehow makes it work perfectly, but that only works on Super Audio CDs, not Blu-ray Discs.

Anyone else having 24Hz issues in the Netflix app? With 23,97Hz & 24Hz content, the output stays at 24Hz. With 25.000Hz content the player doesn't switch to 24Hz but outputs it to 60Hz. Which affects the image and my audio delay.

If you search on "Test Patterns" there are Hz rate test files.

So, here's the thing: I have a Sony 65 inch x950h and a Sony UDP-X800M2 Player. Every time I put a DVD or a Blu-Ray this happens, a horrible smudge on the screen, green pixels through the tv and Blu-Rays playing awfully. So, I went in and bought a LG UBMK9, and everything plays smooth, except if the disc is Dolby Vision which plays the movies on 60fps no matter what I do. Bought a SONY UBP-X700 and the same green pixels adorn every BLU & DVD once again.

if anyone could help me, it would be awesome, since I tried everything under the sun, from changing the HDMI to turning off Dolby Vision and on, the list goes on.

First of all, are you sure the warranty has expired?
Second, do you have some technical knowledge?

Sounds like a possible conflict between the bit-depth levels/settings on the particular HDMI port on the TV and the output on the UHD BD player.

Hi all. I’m trying to play these new Japan only 3D marvel releases. I noticed some people are downloading the forced English subtitles and using them on OPPO players. I’m wondering if there is anyway to use custom subtitles like that on this player?

I popped Grease in last night on my x700 and the player sounded like it was about to spin apart it was spinning so loudly. First time I heard this since I got the player for Christmas. If I skip ahead a chapter the sounds cuts in half and if I skip another chapter, it's silent. If I go back a chapter, it's just as loud again. Forward again and it's quiet. If I skip to the last couple chapters, the noise kicks right back in again.

So how common is this noise issue with spinning some discs? Does the x800 have the same issue? I don't want to have to worry about random discs being unplayable due to noise issues. Why does it only make that loud spinning sound in the first 2 and last 2 chapters? I have to make a decision by this evening if I will be keeping the x700 or returning it. I sit only about 8-10 feet away from the player. I can't ignore it. It sounded like it was going to take off it was so loud. All other discs have been quiet but I can't worry about random discs acting up in this player.
Hello, I was looking for this problem on Google and I saw your comment. It happens to me also on my player sony ubp-x800m2 with some 4K movies like Gandhi. Can I reduce that this is normal in some 4K movies? If you jump to the third chapter the noise disappears, which I don't know why this happens.

Because it is reading from a different part of the disc. Reading the innermost layer of the disc requires a substantially higher RPM (and therefore more noise) than reading the outer layer.

Thanks for the answer, I see a lot of 4K but with Gandhi it is where I have noticed the noise was very strong at the beginning of the movie. I already thought it was a problem with my player.

These Sony machines are probably the most sound-insulated machines I've ever seen.

When I played 3:10 to Yuma on my UBP-X700, the disc was really loud as soon as I put it in and during the menu. I'd never heard the disc player make so much noise before. Thankfully, it seemed to stop when the movie started. When I put it in a second time it didn't make any significant noise either.
