I think my UBP-X800 player is dying. During disc playback (blu-ray and uhd) the picture is stuttering for a second or two at various spots. Rewinding and playing it back usually fixes the issue. Originally thought it might have been a defective disc but it has happened with 5-6 discs now in a row.

The way I found out about the update today is when I turned on two of my family members year 2017 Sony UDP-X800 players, and since they are connected by ethernet they automatically notified me of a update. Therefore I installed this latest 5-31-2022 firmware update over ethernet on both Sony 4K Blu-ray players. Took less then 5 minutes for the update.
Nice to see Sony still supporting 5 year old 4K Blu-ray players with firmware updates. |

It's available to download directly on their website. I don't connect my player to the internet, so I'll be updating with a USB drive.

The latest firmware update (wireless) for my Sony UBP-X800 went smoothly.
Tested a few less-than-pristine DVD and BD (Original Resolution player setting). Black Rain (1989) BD may've showed marginal improvement for whites and definition. No complaints for this player before or after. It's been a stellar performer. |

I bought this player today from a seller on Craigslist, got a really good deal. It looks like the seller thought it crapped out, but all it needed was a laser lens disc cleaner spin and it runs great. Pretty excited, ain't gonna lie, now all I need is that 4K tv, which should be mine no later than Black Friday.

I have three UBP-X800 players, and they were having problems with the installed apps not recognizing the wireless network even though going to the network setting shows it was connected. I have a Netgear RAX (WiFi 6) router, and I was connecting the player to the 5G band with the WIFI 6 settings on. I finally tried the 2.4G band using channel 2 and now have no problems. On a side note, I am disappointed in that Sony has not supported the apps on this player.

Again reading 4K discs ![]() I didn’t take many photos but man this thing is built Like a tank, I’m assuming to keep vibrations done. You take the top cover off then it has another cover with about 12 screws. Once that comes off you have 4 screws and 3 ribbon cables holding the drive in. Once it’s out the top cover has 2 screws on the side and 2 recessed down that need to come Out the rest can stay. Then it’s just cleaning the lens. |

After a few days I again have problems getting the installed apps to recognize the internet. The network settings show I am connected.

Our UBP-X800 just died on us, showing us only the SONY logo at startup, no menu, but it reads discs and we can hear them through the coaxial output. (again, tried everything including opening it to hit the reset button on the main board, inconclusive) It had a freezing habit too, 1-3 times a month, we've had it since September 2019. We tolerated it.
Oh, we bought the UBP-X700 in a hurry 6 days ago because of the 800 dying. We've had the 700 for 6 days now, brand new from Bestbuy. It froze 7 times, 3 times today only, watching The Office blu rays?? I have tested everything. I am returning the 700 to the store and will buy the Panasonic 420. No need for Dolby Vision since we use projection, so no Panasonic 820. If someone has a better way, thanks for letting me know. |
