For anyone who happens to have the Sony XBR55X930D TV, it just had a major update. The only thing is, you have to do it via a USB flash drive. Download it first from the Sony eSupport website and then transfer it into the flash drive. Then plug it into the back of the TV and the update will begin! It downloads on the computer via a zip file so be sure to extract the correct file from the zip before putting it onto the flash drive. Otherwise it will not work.

I have no idea if both the Sony 800 and 1000ES will or will not get an eventual Dolby Vision firmware upgrade in the future, zero idea.
But I do have an opinion; it would be swell. I did read few comments too, here and there; here are only two from two different people (you are free to think whatever you want to think, or believe): [Regarding the Sony 800] 1) "I got this yesterday at my local Worst Buy (Oiler country) and the Sony rep was there. He guaranteed me that this unit is getting an update for Dolby Vision.........and I believe him." [April 27, 2017] 2) "I spoke to Sony well before this player hit store shelves, and the rep stated they did have support documentation stating it would receive Dolby Vision update later." [April 29, 2017] There are few more people who posted similar mouth-to-ear 'whistling'. If you feel any turbulence, please report to your local Salvation Army store (this is humor just in case you missed). Take this with a grain of salt, just like someone who loves a movie big time (La La Land), and another one who doesn't feel much about it. Opinions vary from each person to person. It's a beautiful blue planet we live on. ______ I like what I'm reading here, it is shining bright. I would have loved to see more comparisons with the top guns; Oppo 203 and Panny 900 for example, but there are some. And money is relevant; it is part of the choice we make, for the vast majority of us. I thought I started a comparison thread for the members here, but I must have clicked the delete button accidentally. I also checked one of my local stores earlier; they were all sold out...the Sony 800, in & out. They need more of those to fulfill all orders and accommodate customers...I think. ![]() ______ Here's a question: For anyone who would be in possession of both the Sony 800 and 1000ES; it would be very cool to remove their top covers (only few screws) and take pics of their internals (zooming on their circuit boards so that we can read the serial numbers of their important parts, like the video chips, etc.). Then post them right here. Or if you don't have a camera phone, just write down the numbers...from the top of their video chips (if not obstructed), and other relevant parts to picture quality. That would be so cool to have pics of their internals. I would if I could myself. If ever I find some online I'll post them. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 05-01-2017 at 04:09 AM. Reason: [] |

If I can't fix this issue I will have to press stop and see if the player resumes. Or turn the tv off while paused and see if the player still shuts off. |

In way less than 5 years, there'll be other better 4K Blu-ray players that people will want. No one will care about this one by then to justify spending an extra $400 for a 5 year warranty. To me, that's a huge waste of money, but that's just me.

![]() Might have to reconsider getting it unless I can get it with a nice discount like I got the X800. Still waiting on European release dates though... |

Have you tried e-mailing Sony or calling their support number to let them know that what you require would be a much appreciated feature? |

It's very rare that I've done this, but I've definitely gone out for hours on end, only to return home and see that I've left my Blu-ray player on. I've had a Harmony remote for some years now, though, so it hasn't happened lately, but when the batteries on it are almost dead, it doesn't always effectively reach every piece of equipment. I'd want it to turn off.

Can someone tell me if the 800 and 1000 has the WWE app for streaming? I am assuming it has Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, and youtube, and PS Vue?
Also, does it decode HDCD discs? What about playing dvd ISO from an external? Is that all we are going off of between the 2 differences? In that the 1000 has a 5 year warranty and a display? Has the SoC been verified? |

![]() The Panasonic UB900 also used to do this, pause a movie for more than 20 minutes or so and it would automatically shut itself down. Why? I decide whether or not it should be on or off. Fortunately it has been fixed since the last update. ![]() On Sony TVs there's a setting that determines what picture profile it should use based on the source. By doing that it will also change picture settings, some of which I don't ever want to use. Again, I will decide that for myself. Luckily it can be turned off though. Again on Sony TVs. If you choose the cinema picture mode and you have a Sony AV receiver connected, the receiver will then automatically choose the HD-D.C.S soundfield which will alter the movie's audiotrack. I don't want that, I want it to be AFD (Auto Format Detection) all the time, always. That way there will not be any additional processing to the audio. But it won't do that so now I have to press AFD everytime. All of these automated functions always get on my nerves. At least let the consumer decide for himself. I like to be in control as much as possible. ![]() |
