Watching a video right now and it does indeed indicate VP9.2 but it's not showing in HDR.

All 4K discs play just fine in HDR though.

Yeah, I reset it a few times and it didn't work. It was doing it for streaming and disc. Was on with Sony support and changed a bunch settings and wasn't working. Dunno what ended up being changed after a while but it started working. But so far so good.

Just had my first real problem with this player. I went to play a Blu-ray and there was no audio, everything was working as it should, got to the menu and no audio. So I pressed stop and turned player back on, played the disc and I had audio back on. It has happened only once so far, definitely was the player. Just though I'd report the issue here in case Sony reads these forums and for people who own it. Player is working fine now, one hiccup so far.

Quick question, right now I have a Philips 4K Player, and I loathe it. I really want this one because my old Sony regular blu-ray player was fantastic. Is this one good? Is it worth the the steep price point?

What steep price point? It's only $299 and yes, it's definitely worth it!

Possibly people who used to buy < $100 BD players still think UHD players are terribly overpriced. They all tend to forget how expensive DVD players were at the beginning, same for Blu-Ray players.

$299 is not expensive IMHO.

It might be expensive to ya'll but it can be considered costly for others. It's not a terrible price point but unfortunately I don't crap $100's. Though, believe me, I've tried.

I'll probably end up getting it, anything is better than this Philips.

Hi "Faint". If the fates allow, I'll be diving into the Sony X800 as my 1st 4K UHD BD player sometime next week. Even Robert Zohn, A/V expert of Value Electronics in Scarsdale, NY and fellow forum member, is a big fan of the Sony. The Sony's that good -- in performance, reliability, and built like a tank.

You get 2 free Sony UHD so that's up to $50 value.

Only useful if they're UHD you want, and supposedly the desirable ones (to me anyway) like Passengers are no longer available with the "2 free" offer.

I ordered my free movies from Sony last week and Passengers was available and in stock at that time. I didn't order it since I bought it on release day, but it didn't say it was sold out.

In addition to the two free movies, Sony offers you the choice to purchase up to 3 more UHD Blu-rays at $18.40 each, which I took advantage of. So, $55.20 for 5 UHD Blu-rays. I chose:
  • Ghostbusters (2016) 4K + 3D
  • The Magnificent Seven 4K
  • The Angry Birds Movie 4K + 3D
  • Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk 4K + 3D
  • The Shallows 4K
The movies arrived insanely fast. I ordered on Friday night and they arrived Monday morning. After registering all 5 discs on Sony Rewards, I got a coupon for another free Blu-ray through Sony. Pretty great deal.

Anyone have a clue what the latest services update did? I swear Sony is worse than Samsung when it comes to saying nothing.

If you are talking about net services, they never say what it was.

It was the net services update. Don't notice anything new.
