E6AtmosVuduDV, When did the LG player get the update to Dolby Vision? I just did some research and I couldn't find any LG 4K player that currently does Dolby Vision. You need to stop posting wrong information. A lot of people read these threads and all you're doing is confusing them.
Show me where the LG player got the update and I'll eat my skivvies. Otherwise please stop posting false information. You keep calling it the LG UP70 player. LG calls it the LG UP970 4K player. Are we both talking about the same player? |

DV means DV Capable in usage. Like Sony DV TV's. DV really is just MetaData. Either the AV electronic item has DV Hardware or not. Your LG player used by your reference has the DV Hardware. With projected DV FW coming this summer. Maybe late July or August.

Do you know what thread this is? The thread title says Sony UBP-X800 4K UHD Blu-ray player. Why do you keep bringing up the LG player in this thread? Go flap your gums all you want in the correct thread. If you want to talk about Sony players, this is the correct thread. Yes? No? Maybe? |

So some questions, does this player have HDR and Dolby Vision? Also how important is DV?
What are the 15 movies you can choose from for free? The site wont show unless you register. Last edited by SleeperAgent; 07-03-2017 at 05:44 PM. |

Well, even though I purchased the UBP-X800 as refurbished, I was still able to chose two 4k movies from the Sony site for free. Happy about that part at least. The player itself looks brand new, no scuffs, no scratches. So, off to get it connected to the home theater, hope everything goes well |

Got it connected, beautiful picture, and I haven't even purchased a 4k projector yet. It is currently set for HDR-SDR conversion for my Epson Home Cinema 3500. I project a 130" picture and I can see improvement already over the picture given me by the Sony BDP-S7200, although it is a small improvement, it is noticeable. Can't wait to get a true 4K projector, but, will be doing a lot of research on 4K projectors first. |

Lets Clear this Up.
Which Source published that Sony x800 do not have a Mediatek DV Chip. It seems Mediatek makes several Chip models each with a different MT number for Blu Disk Players. Or have someone credible photo'D the Sony x800's Internal Board showing no DV Chip of any kind? Even in x800 with a June 2017 Built Date. September 2015 news... "Dolby has announced partnerships with*Realtek, HiSilicon and MediaTek*to provide Dolby Vision*System-on-Chips (SoCs) for multiple playback devices. Through these new SoCs, the Dolby Vision technology can be incorporated into*Ultra HD set-top-boxes, Smart TVs, Over-the-Top (OTT) online streaming, Ultra HD Blu-ray players and Digital Media Adapters (DMAs)." Something I'm wondering about...
If Sony is putting the 'X1 Extreme processor' in it's newer TVs, maybe they will add a feature to the x800 which would allow 'pass thru' of DV metadata for processing on the TV? I have an LG C6, but the feature *could* work similarly if the TV can already process DV. |

Yep, it's not just about metadata because the DV layer itself on UHD Blu is only 1920x1080 resolution. The player must be able to combine the enhancement layer into the base layer to decode the proper 3840x2160 12-bit output, inclusive of said metadata.
There are a number of different dual layer encoding profiles within Dolby Vision (only one of which is actually a single layer solution) so that's partly where the need for all the processing grunt at the decoding end comes from. |
