Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

Some movies dont need a sequel and Top Gun is one of them. One of my favorite movies.

The last Rambo was pretty good. And Cruise has made some good movies of late- I enjoyed "Jack Reacher," which apparently has a sequel on the way. The new Mission Impossible looks like it could be good. But "Going Clear" probably has Cruise's PR people working to offset the negative light. I still don't think he's commented on it yet. Maverick is really the only endearing character Cruise has that's suitable for a reboot.

At least it wasn't a reboot and Tom Cruise is likely to return.

But you don't have to watch it though so if you think your fond memories are going to be destroyed than pretend it doesn't exist. Pretty simple.

I'm surprised they're still going through with it. When Tony Scott died, I thought all plans for a sequel would be abandoned, permanently.

The best that will come of this is how Archer will react. Hopefully they can include it in season 7.

That would be nice, including a dedication as well. I was never a huge fan of either their careers, but "Top Gun" remains a very special movie.

But nothing can retroactively destroy one's childhood. The original movie doesn't change. The experiences of watching the movie doesn't change. Lethal Weapon 4 sucks but it doesn't change Lethal Weapon. So much hyperbole.

Dang, Tony Scott didn't even cross my mind. Ridley is pretty busy, but it would be nice to see him direct. Maybe with his credits, and relation to the original director, he would be able to mitigate any studio bs and keep the project respectable.

So, Tom Cruise wants to do Top Gun 2, but only “if there’s no CGI on the jets” and if the film relies, instead, on practical effects.

“If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it’d be fun to do. I’d like to fly those jets again, but we got to do all the jets practical, no CGI,” Cruise, who starred as Maverick in the 1986 original, told Extra. “I’m saying right now, no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun.”

Whatever it's worth, a step in the right direction.

Ridley already gave his brother a dedication at the end of Exodus: Gods and Kings.

If this sequel does happen don't think it will ever be as good as the original. Think the only way it can work is if they have Cruise as a teacher at the school. Without him shouldn't be a sequel.

Well you'd be wrong they're giving people EXACTLY what the market is dictating and that is people trying to relive their fondest memories of their childhoods, or prior lives...

If their wasn't a market it for it believe me it wouldn't be happening.

Making a successful sequel is very hard work, because unlike first films in a series, everyone has an opinion about the next one. I do love that scene at the end though, where Stinger reacts to Maverick remaining at Top Gun. His expression and line delivery were priceless.
