No! And even still, what if the product was only available online? How is that lazy? And even still, I'd love to see those idiot's reactions if they had their packages thrown or broken! I bet they wouldn't stand for it and would be raising hell the moment they say it happen! |

Adventures in car repair:
1. Car needs one new front passenger strut since it's leaking. Look up YouTube video for instructions. Doesn't look too hard. 2. Might as well replace both front struts. 3. While we're fixing stuff anyway, let's change the brake shoes. Which means also getting an adjustment kit. 4. It's cold outside and I don't have a garage. Let's just pay someone else to do it. |

According to the site here, my 4k count is 99 and my Blu-rays are at 666.
Odd numbers to have at the same time. I'm gonna quit buying movies now. [Show spoiler] I should update my HT pics at some point. |

Got a notice of a FedEx shipment coming this week but had no idea what was coming. My Best Buy orders aren't coming by FedEx. Nothing's coming from Target.
Eventually I figured out that it was the freebie I'm getting from LG for buying something else. |

So, my internet provider, Spectrum, is offering me a "no contract" deal where I can get uncapped internet, with speeds up to 50 mbps. I just did a couple of speed runs and it looks like I'm currently at 65 mbps.
I don't do online gaming. I do watch a lot of HD streaming (YouTube) and I also do a lot of downloading, not to mention working with a lot of browser tabs going at once. This would be for a dedicated cable modem connection. My wireless is already covered elsewhere, so don't even worry about that. I'm currently paying $41.95 a month. This promo is $29.99/month. Is the difference of 15 mbps worth an extra $12/month? Last edited by BeastCreatureTrapper; 11-12-2020 at 01:53 AM. |

HOWEVER, do some price comparison in your area since Spectrum pricing varies. You might be on a grandfathered plan from Time Warner/Roadrunner/whatever in which case it might make sense in the long run if the $29.99 promo turns into a Spectrum $70/month plan afterward. |

So, now that Spectrum has ended their partnership with Earthlink, I'm sure their thinking is to offer those previous Earthlink partners a promo before they start looking at other options. I tried looking up the specs of my current plan on Spectrum's site under my account, and it doesn't list the actual proposed speeds of my current plan. I agree with you about the listed plan speeds being more of a lowball "cover their ass" stating, versus a hard and fast cut-off. My hunch is that my current plan probably is "50 mbps" already. I'm going with your common sense approach of just trying the offer and, if it doesn't work, then I can just go back to where I was already. I'm willing to bet that I've been, in essence, on the $29.99 performance tier all these years, but haven't been paying accordingly. Thanks for your feedback! ![]() |

The promo period is for two years. If I was to sign on to their current equivalent standard plan for my current specs (assuming I'm on that 50 mbps), I would be paying $49.99, although that's bundled with wireless too. At any rate, I'll definitely shop around. No worries. ![]() ETA: Okay, I understand now. Though Spectrum doesn't list their plan fees as promotions, that's how they are treated. I looked up the local Spectrum rate card and, yes, after a year of $49.99, the standard rate of $70.00 would kick in. The alternatives in my area are next to nil, too. It's not like I live in the boondocks either. I'll keep exploring options, just for giggles at this point but, you know, that ol' $42/month hit ain't lookin' too bad now. *L* Last edited by BeastCreatureTrapper; 11-12-2020 at 04:49 AM. |

I'm fortunate enough to have two decent choices for internet providers where I live. I have Optimum and Verizon and I'm currently on Verizon. I switch back and forth every year or two when the new customer promotion ends so I am always getting the "best deal". The lines are already installed so it is just a matter of a couple of phone calls and moving my router's connection 12 inches. But right now, it appears Verizon has changed their pricing structure and with no contract and no indication they will be increasing my monthly rate when my year is up, I might actually be staying with Verizon for a while. |

You know, when high speed internet first became available, my internet bill doubled, which was fine at the time because I figured that new technology is always more expensive out of the gate. I also assumed that, as high speed internet became more available and established, that the pricing models would go down. So, this line of thinking also contributed to my dissatisfaction with my current bill. What I had forgotten to really consider, but always kinda suspected deep down, is that basic internet access in the United States is still monopolized to be overpriced and limited in options. A simple Googling and research dive will make one sick when they realize how inferior and overpriced US internet is compared to the rest of the world. It's Ma Bell all over again. |
