That's a damn good Sarah McLachlan song though. She has a wonderful voice.

On my mind is this heat and the fact that I haven't figured out a working sleep schedule for my new work schedule. I work from 10pm to 6:30am and the plan is to try and get to sleep by 2pm and wake up at 8:30pm. I'm still trying to take public transportation to work as much as possible so I do have to get up earlier for that reason. I did accidentally take a two hour nap earlier today. I believe the nap was about 2 hours. That probably didn't help. But anyway, it's 5:02pm and I've been awake for a while now and I would prefer to be sound asleep for another 3.5 hours

Very good song. It's actually about a drug overdose of a musician.

Speaking of musicians with good voices like Ms. Sarah McLachlan, it is strange how LA and Nashville just keep cranking out musician after musician with amazing mellifluous vocals, and then just discards the musician if they don't have a follow-up hit.

Hollywood is strange.

Crazy that the song is over 25 years old now.

I discovered this movie on HBO way back when I was younger. Just like Krull, The Beastmaster, and so many others.

Just cracked open my 16th novel for 2024, I see Coas on Solano is closed tomorrow and Coas on Main opens at 12. So I'll go to the store on Main tomorrow after lunch and trade in Fall or Dodge in Hell for a different novel yet to be determined.

Get a 2-pack of bear spray, in particular if you live in San Francisco or West Hollywood.

Often wore Peltor 3M hearing protection at old warehouse, never was talked to about it. Transferred, one day with them here, manager asks me to take them off. I tell him they're not headphones. Tells me I can get an accomodation. I tell him I don't have a hearing problem so don't need to see a doctor. I ask him to show me the policy. He looks it up, reads "no earbuds, headphones, speakers" in a section that isn't even about hearing. He refers me to the operations manager, who eventually finds the same policy. I tell him that they are not phones or earbuds. He says it's a matter of interpretation. WTF. I tell him that I wore them even when speaking with tech ops and leadership over the radio and no one questioned it. Tells me about an employee who wears protective muffs because of tinitis, with a medical note. I wear them to NOT get tinitis. I don't like the earplugs. They slip out. Anyway, he spoke with Safety, they said it was okay, but he needs to wait for pre-approved disposable ones that he ordered. Probably shittier than mine.

My favorite part:

"Well, we follow safety here."

"So did they, which is why *pointing at policy* earbuds, headphones and speakers were not allowed."

This whole situation is bizarre. The fact that there are pre-approved earplugs makes it obvious that the company doesn't consider them a safety hazard or job distraction. I'm trying to figure out why they are micromanaging on this issue.

Apparently Amazon Prime is $140 a year and I could really only justify that when I was getting both Prime delivery and playing Alexa Jeopardy every day. Got tired of Alexa Jeopardy so when November rolls around, I will not be renewing Amazon Prime at that price. Will be down to Hulu, Paramount Plus, Peacock and Crunchyroll. Will get Netflix again eventually but right now saving that $16 a month.

I can't wear earbuds; most are too small and keep falling out. Some headphones have a reverse problem, being too tight and hurting my outer ears after just a few hours. My sister Nita bought me a pair of Beats several years ago as a gift. I was grateful and appreciated them, but usually couldn't wear them for more than 2 hours at a time because of the pain.

I could never wear airpods because they dug into my skin.

Read 120 pages yesterday, read 102 pages so far today, want to keep at it and see how many books I can get through this year. Imagine whatever the number ends up being, I won't beat it next year.

I used to read voraciously as a kid, easily finishing probably 30 books or more in a couple of months. But these days, its just so frickin' hard to slow my mind down for a book...which frustrates me since I can read on my computer just fine. I probably have about 200 books on various subjects, but some have sat unread for over 10 years. I refuse to sell them though, because I do want to get past this problem and truly enjoy reading again.

Yeah I cracked my 16th novel and only sold 1 because I didn't really enjoy it so I can't see myself opening it again with the intent of finishing it at 888 pages. Grisham can be fun, his books are quick, breezy reads and I think I need to look into the Alexandre Dumas Count of Monte Cristo novel. Always loved the Jim Caviezel film and V for Vendetta.

I tried reading some of John Grisham's stuff as a kid, but it just never stuck with me. I did see part of both The Rainmaker though, and also The Pelican Brief. As for Dumas, I never read any of his books, but I adore Disney's live-action version of The Three Musketeers. Some have told me to watch The Count of Monte Cristo, and Jim Caviezel's a fine actor; I just haven't gotten to it yet.

V for Vendetta was an interesting and complex but also a very controversial film. I wasn't sure what to expect, and didn't see it until the home video release. There's a few moments I don't really care for, but Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving are both excellent actors. My favorite scene is this one, where V introduces himself by using almost every related word in the English tongue. Being that the character is fully masked, and Hugo was actually cast as a replacement during the production, I wonder if he read those lines off a cue card in a sound booth. All I could think of was, "It makes no sense - unless you're a complete genius, how the hell do you memorize something like this?!"
