If Zavvi wind up with the superior edition, you're gonna see some serious shit.

I've done this numerous times and it has always worked.

I just really hope that Amazon UK gets this and it isn't exclusive to Zavvi or HMV because I'd rather pay extra to get this directly from Amazon with prepaid customs and DHL/UPS shipping instead of going through the stupid freight forwarder service.
You mean just use a random fake address just to get an order in and change it later if they open up international pre-orders? I've never done that. I wouldn't want to risk my account getting banned. I've never used a forwarding service either but I'm guessing that just adds more time and handling and expense to the whole thing. It's so frustrating that they closed up international pre-orders.

I think it might just be an outdated way of what makes a good transfer that was still in people's minds 10 years back-- during the DVD era, it was all about looking as clean and slick as possible, and that carried over to the HD era initially. It took people a while to equate HD with being more transparent to a film's original look, and was more about the "window-effect." I think even directors like Bob Gale looked at that way. Luckily, all signs seem to be pointing to BttF looking nice and filmic for UHD.
Good points. We also do not know what Gale was looking at either. Was it the scan prior to DNR, a check disc prior to DNR, etc? Or did he see the final BD and say it was great?

I would also take the word of the director and DP especially over a producer when it comes to stuff like how faithful a transfer is to the source.

I posted this earlier regarding the original BDs:

Bob Gale: Back to the Future Blu-ray Looks “Breathtaking”

During an interview on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Back to the Future, Bob Gale, BTTF creator, producer and co-writer, said he had seen the movie projected days ago and he thought "it looks so good, so much better than it did in 1985", when it opened in theaters.

He further explained: "When they did the remastering for the Blu-ray they spent over 400 hours doing dirt cleanup, and almost another 200 hours doing color correction, so the movie looks better than it ever did." When a film is shown at the theater, "you have the print going through the projector, it picks up dirt, gets scratched and with the digital technology these guys fixed almost all of that stuff, and it just looks breathtaking."

A chap in the US literally did that to pre-order a set the other day, Amazon.it's customer service told them to make one up.

Doesn't have to be a fake address.

You can order it as a gift to the US Embassy in London and nobody would care.

I have literally 23 addresses in my Amazon account and some of them are fake for tax free Digital Codes (we don't have a Playstation Store for example so I have a US one and to buy codes from Amazon, I must have a US adress and since I am not located in the US, not paying taxes on digital goods is not unethical).

I also buy from different Amazon stores and send to friends in other countries than mine and the Amazon store even.

This is since 2008.

To be fair to Bob, it's not apparent what he watched. The DCPs that came out of the remastering work done for the blu-rays don't look terrible, and he's saying he 'saw the movie projected'.

The headline Bob Gale: Back to the Future Blu-ray Looks “Breathtaking” was added by the site.

Whatever was done for the BD was not very good. Colors were off, clipping/contrast boost, EE, and DNR. Nothing really positive about these discs even for 2011. All too often "dirt removal" also implies grain removal in some people's minds. He is certainly at least part to blame, but again, plenty of filmmakers have let their movies turn out like crap on home video. But he praised the BD efforts, so big thumbs down here.

I saw the 2K DCP for the first movie a few years back as well. It looked very close the BD except it had a little more film grain. I was not impressed. However, I've heard there was another DCP floating around as well.

Oh, absolutely. The BDs are awful.

But the DCPs don't have the EE and DNR cranked up to insane levels like the BDs do. And from the quotes, it appears he was talking about the DCP. The EE and DNR was slapped on for the discs after the initial restoration effort.

It couldn't be more clear he is talking about the BDs. He says it explicitly.

"When they did the remastering for the Blu-ray they spent over 400 hours doing dirt cleanup, and almost another 200 hours doing color correction, so the movie looks better than it ever did." Let that sink in. "When they did the remastering for the Blu-ray..."

The DCP I saw did have DNR and EE. Better than the BD, but that is not saying a lot as it still looked over-processed and overly digital.

Right, I saw BTTF in the theater digitally and it was heavily processed, although not quite as much as the BD.

Seeing it in 35mm last year shows just how good it could have looked.

Thanks for bringing up the point about the BD itself. Seems like he was referring to that.

I don’t suppose you know when we might be seeing the preorders go live in the UK?
