I think your spot on as usual. These put pretty much all my fears to rest. Gone is that overly sharp paste colored picture quality. Now we have a much more filmic picture and richer colors. IIIs colors really make it look more like a western now. So excited for this release.

Shades of Goonies but I'm okay with that.

I mean look at the Guitar in screencap 6 of part II. so much more detail it’s incredible. All the strings and the lovely finish on the body of the guitar.

And even the "DCP" rip of BTTF - which I've always said kicked the arse of the official Blu but is still a rather tired HD telecine at source - has some quite obvious sharpening compared to the UHD which is making the DCP look 'sharper' and noisier but no way is it more detailed. And I love the UHD grading too, it's got more destiny - sorry, I mean density - in the shadows and that warm tone to the skin is right up my alley. Eeeeek!

BTW Part 3 looks absolutely stunning in those caps. Tighter detail than the other two, incredibly fine grain, wow.

Is it a requirement to have fat, hairy hands for unboxing videos?

Pretty much, that and the duvet cover they're unboxing it on. It's basically the law at this point, like people doing Bluray reviews to camera must show their collection in the background.

And you know what the crazy thing is? They're not even using the old Blu-rays as the 'before' cap for any of the three movies, they're using the best possible extant sources like the "DCP" for BTTF and a WEB-DL for the other two that doesn't seem to have the pasty-faced DNR and sharpening of the Blus, and yet those betterer sources are still having their asses handed to them by the UHDs. Oh mai.

Easily the best these movies have ever looked. And not in a Star Wars trilogy way, like these are probably never going to look better way.

Yup. DNR, when applied in appropriate measure, is a very good thing -- and that looks to be exactly what we're seeing here. And frankly, the detail that's been restored in those previously nuked highlights is more than enough cause to celebrate. Look at the improvement on the car bumper outside the window...

Definitely that, as well as them probably not realising the previous transfers were from a 20+ year old IP.

All I know is, Friday/Saturday can't come soon enough. They'll probably turn up just before I've got to go to work but I'm not waiting once I get home, it'll be gone midnight and I'm just gonna dive straight into BTTF. I'll also bust out the "DCP" rip and the old Blu for comparisons.

A while back in the thread I posted something about some very early caps of the newer masters where I said I was getting a little bit excited (which earned me a chiding from one of our resident idiots who did nothing but post questions aksing when this would be announced and can now do nothing but complain at the slightest inkling that these are anything less than perfect), well, now I'm getting VERR VERR EXCITE after looking at those caps. Maybe they do look a bit smearier in motion a la Goonies but dang, that'll do me after the shit we've had to put up with for years for these movies.

Meh, I'm content with the Blu-rays, which already look excellent. Who wants to see ancient films such as these in 4K anyway? It's not like they were shot in 4K. #BoycottUHD

You're really considering cancelling your order that you got for $9.99? You can't be serious.

I’m going to use my discs as frisbees if I catch any of that weird grain that seems to litter the UHD format.

Heh. Some people will in all probability prefer the heavily sharpened old Blu-ray to the UHD, it's their choice to do so (and it's never the freedom to make that choice that I question, just the taste or lack thereof of the person making the choice), but I'm looking forward to the comments from other folks who'll say "damn, I never realised that the Blu looked THAT bad" when doing comparisons of their own, like what happened with American Werewolf when the Arrow Blu came out. I mean, some people recognised that old BTTF Blu for the shitshow it is the moment they laid their eyeses upon it 10 years ago, but as long as people get there in the end that's the main thing.

You could always edit the order history and swap out your address for mine?
