I would definitely get it but watch them right away because mine had those freezing/skipping problems so I returned it and got a refund.

The movies looked great but I'm waiting to see if it'll be lower on BF (I kinda doubt it). I'm also hoping by waiting a bit longer the newer pressings won't have that problem.

The UHD BDs are not perfect, but they a BIG improvement over the original BDs...looking much closer to 35mm. No brainer purchase.

Where is the freeze/skip issue?

One I remember kept happening when Marty is having dinner with 1955's Lorraine and her family. There were a couple more but I can't remember when. Others reported that problem during that scene as well.

It feels kind of sad that between the 2002 DVD, the 2015 Blu-ray, and the 2020 UHD, the '15 BD looks the worst (the DVD looks fine by DVD standards), but also marks the only one I could watch without a freeze.
(Although, the 2002 and '03 DVDs of Back to the Future Part II and Part III have even worse freezing.)

What are you playing these on to get so much freezing on so many discs, a PotatoVision 3000?

The DVDs only freeze on players that pause when transitioning from the first layer to the second.

Weird. As pretty much every DVD player paused on layer changes as the discs weren't authored to be seamless (although they could've been) and very few players had a buffer which accounted for this.

these sets have been known to have a fair number of bad discs
my steel set UHD for BTTF had a number of sector errors and slow sectors that would likely freeze/stutter most to all players

For the record, when I lamented that the Back to the Future Part II and Part III DVDs have "even worse freezing" than Part I, I meant that I found the layer change too obvious on the sequels; Part I changed layers at the end of Chapter 16, while the sequels each change layers in the middle of a scene.

Well, then that's not a playback error as the term "freezing" would seemingly denote when referencing it alongside the buggy UHD. However janky the DVDs' layer changes are, they're a normal function of that format.

Paid $24 for mine on eBay. I hope I don't have that problem on my Xbox One.

Speaking of the DVD I remember I first got the set with the watch that is broken and lost years ago. Didn't realize until a few years after an old site called Davis DVD mentioned a problem with the set. Luckily Universal was still replacing them. Came in cd cases.

So that explains why I see the very low price for the 4k everywhere.
As of 11/5/2021 I saw it on BestBuy for $14 for the trilogy.
So what if you buy it and you have these problems can't send it back to Universal for a new 4k? Universal is very good when it comes to exchanges I have done this with them for years so I always buy Universal movies.

My Sony x700 is on the new Aug 2021 firmware - Parts 1 and 3 played fine throughout (these discs have some minor scratches), Part 2 (disc has no marks or scratches) froze, pixellated and skipped ahead 5-10 seconds in 1 scene when the school principal fires his shotgun at some punks at his house. Bought the UHDs 2 weeks ago.

So this has no original audio, is that correct? I wish I was technically inclined to know how to find the laserdisc audio and sync it with this.

Sadly, that's correct. Fantomas only.

From what the imdb states the original audios are as follows:

1&2: 2.0 Dolby Stereo (35mm) & 5.1 (70mm)
3: 4.0 Dolby Stereo SR (35mm) & 5.1 (70mm)

(Correct me if I'm wrong...)

I prefer to have the 35mm audio myself but will accept the 70mm option in lieu.

Anyone else still prefer the DVDs? I don't like the Bluray set at all and it sounds like the 4k is also disappointing.

Not a fan of DNR at all.

To those that own the 4&k set, is the back to the future ride bonus still a laserdisc sourced copy?

While the BTTF 4k set is not perfect, it is still superior to the DVD in soooo many ways.
