Pre-ordered the Amazon Giftset as I've been lazy and have not bought these films yet in 4K. Plus it will be the first guitar I ever owned.

An extra new bonus disc, too.

That’s 8 discs total: 3 are UHD, 5 are BD…you get the same discs whether you buy the three steelbooks separately or buy the 40th anniversary trilogy set
The “original/35th anniversary” 4K trilogy set had 7 discs total (only one bonus features disc)….the new bonus features BD is the only new thing being added.
Sorry, I missed seeing the contents of the Part 1 steelbook bonus disc.

Since these will be the exact same 4K discs as 5 years ago, the cheapest way to get the new disc content is to only buy the Part 1 steelbook (if my collecting OCD can stand not having the Part 2 and Part 3 steelbooks for a complete set).

Cool looking set... I just can't bring myself to buy this anymore. I've bought every boxset of this all the way up to 35th anniversary. I dunno how many other ways they can "reflect" on this classic trilogy, and the 35th is plenty enough at this point.

If 4K becomes the last mainstream physical media format, the 40th anniversary set will be my final purchase as well. But if it's offered in even higher resolutions someday, I'll be more than happy to pay for it - this trilogy has been part of my life since I was 9, and I rarely tire of it.

5,000 sold in just 3 days? I find that hard to believe with only 5 new special features. Unless people just went nuts for the included bells and whistles.

A Nightmare on Elm Street which hasn't had a box set since the early days of DVD lasted 5 days and that 4K box set was limited to 4,000.

I've been a collecting BTTF everything since 1989-1990ish (slowed down in the last 10+ years though), and fans love the replica stuff. I'm not particularly fond of it myself. The book I co-wrote, Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History, which was loaded with that stuff, fans seem to be more in love with the paper prop replicas than the book itself.

I can only imagine it was partly the fans wanting the extras, and the rest were eBay resellers doing the scalping thing. I also missed out on the pre-order for the gift set, which sucks, because it contains a 60 page version of The Ultimate Visual History booklet (even has my name on it), and now I've got to do the eBay thing just to get one for my own collection.

The Euro Steelbooks that had the plain poster art just look better, were those French ones? I think GeoffD has/had them.

I preordered the 4K Steelbook. $35 isn't bad for a packaging upgrade and new special features.

Back To The Future, Star Wars, TMNT & Indiana Jones are really the only ones I buy most new editions, regardless, so I went ahead and ordered the new limited edition set, and I might just keep it factory sealed.

I'm guessing the trilogy boxset will include every gadget from the standalone collector's sets..?

Both the UK CE's and the US gift set have a lot of stuff that overlap, but each also have stuff exclusive to those releases too.

If those pictures represent the final product, I see some exclusives indeed:

Individual sets:
BTTF1 - a couple of newspapers more, the "Hill Valley High Tardy Slip"
BTTF2 - Sports almanac, hoverboard design artcards
BTTF3 - timeline poster, Delorean bluprints and design art cards, tombstone photo.

Trilogy set:
- guitar replica
- A match made in space book jacket
- car plate
- numbered certificate
- booklet

God, if they put everything in one box I would've easily paid more than I'm willing to.
The only thing I'd want from the Trilogy set is the booklet; the book jacket looks cool while a Gibson replica would be easy to find elsewhere..
...on the other hand the single sets have all some juicy content (the timeline map and the almanac are a must, but the bluprints and the other replicas look good too).

Also, having bought mostly trilogy sets for this one, for once I'd love the original theatrical posters on the covers. I think I'll go with the single sets this time. It'll be a pain in the ass to get rid of the previous 4K boxset.
