I get your point, but why are you saying that BTTF was meant as a "kiddy" movie. Sure, it's not a mature movie by any means, but it certainly wasn't "kiddy". It's a PG movie not a G movie. IMO, it was borderline PG-13 for that scene, the scene where the dad is peeping through the window, the scene were the mom and Marty are in her bedroom after he got struck with the car, the scene where the band is smoking pot in the car, the underage drinking by Biff and his crew, the scene where Doc gets shot up by the terrorists, and the minor cussing.

Personally, I didn't let my kid see BTTF until she was somewhat older. I think around 11 or 12 years old.

So, hey, does anyone wanna start a list of the common "plot conveniences" that are used more often than time travel!? Hahahahaha. Nearly any film with firearm silencer is gonna be wrecked real fast. Totally wrecked.

Hate to derail, but that made the final battle not as impactful for me, they were fighting a stranger at that point.

Anyways, Yay for 4k BTTF

True. But, 'I don't even know who you are' is a classic line.

I know right everyone is so touchy this days with people who hate what happened to star wars star trek the upcoming mcu slate ghostbusters 2016 terminator etc. these people need to stop being so upset and enjoy things that are actually good the examples I gave are not good films and tv shows no matter how you slice it

I do hope they do these right, as the Blu-ray set wasn’t great.

A little bit of history. The original 1985 Back to the Future movie when it was released on the Laserdisc format was encoded with a new analog copy protection system called Macrovision so that when someone tried to make an unauthorized copy to BETA or the VHS format the picture quality would be to dark and unwatchable. The first movie to be encoded with Macrovision copy protection was The Cotton Club. Anyone that has an old Blu-ray player with analog video outputs has a Macrovision chip that can be turned on and off if the Blu-ray or DVD bitstream sends a signal to the player to turn on the Macrovision chip. For several years since Blu-ray players only have HDMI outputs and no analog video outputs are allowed per the BDA mandate, Blu-ray players no longer need the Macrovision chip that only worked for the analog video outputs. Macrovision in 2009 changed its name to Rovi, then in 2016 Rovi acquired TIVO and changed its name to TIVO.

And then they came out with the two deck VHS players that would nulify Macrovision and you were able to record the movies just fine.

I'm betting these releases will have DTS X tracks not Dolby ATMOS. Should sound great though!

"Take that you mutated son of a *****!"

I'm very excited to see one of my all time favorite movies in 4K! Especially since discovering last night my 2010 blu-ray trilogy pack disc of BTTF 1 started skipping around the 27:47-27:50 mark. Man it pissed me off, the disc looks perfect and it skipped at different moments in-between those three seconds. I even cleaned it off and air sprayed my player. I figure the disc is rotting? Could that be possible?

Anyway perfect excuse to upgrade!

Should I be worried about the 4K transfer being anything like The Bourne Identity?

Actual time travel doesn't work but using science's explanation of the structure of reality, if it did work then it would follow a set of rules that coincide with the physics of our universe. Quantum theory also has a version of travel which would be more in tune to the MCU version although they didn't do that justice either. BTTF is 10x better than MCU (time travel).. the EndGame Writers pulled a Moffat.
This is what annoyed me indeed. Time travel was a mere Deus ex machina for Endgame. They could've done anything they like without touching BttF.

Lol damn! You brought so many memories to me.
I used to bypass Macrovision (didn't even know its name back in the day!) by recording the VHS tapes with an ancient National Panasonic NV-7500 VCR. That sucker was huge and noisy and it was made in 1980 or 1981 iirc and it is still working till today.
Back in the early DVD days, I used to remove all copy protection including Macrovision on PC.

These days were so much fun lol

Finished watching Stranger Things Season 3 yesterday and I LOVED the references to BttF. One of them was... HILARIOUS

Just remembered watching a documentary about BttF and that Disney rejected it... saying it was an incest movie

I have to watch it again (just saw it once), but
[Show spoiler] why couldn't they have done the same and gone and brought Black Widow from the past back the same way too.

These are my favorite movies so this will definitely be a day 1 for me!

The first few pages have several people expressing a dislike of the sequels. This has always mystified me. I never knew there were so many people that loved the original and not the sequels until coming to this site, where I've seen it many times now.

I've settled on the original as my favorite but I think they're all amazing movies.

The in-universe explanation of this is that the ripple effect hasn't caught up with them yet, and they're an exception because they're not in their own time. Everything around them changes the moment Old Biff returns to 2015. If they hung around in 2015, the time machine would eventually disappear, Doc would rematerialize in the mental institution. I mean, I think it's kind of BS. But oh well.

Revised Marty: The explanation I've usually heard and I think makes the most sense, is that he becomes the original Marty when he travels to 1955. Not exactly consistent with other rules established by the series, granted.

Boarding school Marty: I believe he (and institutionalized Doc) vanishes the moment Marty & Doc return from 2015. Also not consistent with other established rules. What can you do?

Here is another problem like this, which I posted in the blu-ray thread.
[Show spoiler]At the end of 3, Jennifer is on the porch even though nobody puts her on the porch in the final timeline. If the explanation is that Marty and Doc put her there after returning from 2015, then there should be an extra Marty in 1985, and Doc should be there too, as they have no reason to return to 1955 to stop Biff...that's already been taken care of. Either Jennifer appears on the porch out of nowhere, or Doc and Marty have to vanish into thin air.

Yeah I think the best explanation is that in the final timeline
[Show spoiler]she leaves for 2015 with Marty and Doc and that evening just materializes on the porch. Marty and Doc never return from 2015. They do arrive from 1885 though, Marty on the train tracks, and Doc in a train.
I don't really like it, but I'm not sure what else can work.

In fact, I didn't even understand what was happening in that scene, until I was an adult. It certainly shows just how evil Biff is. (Though we later learn he is capable of murder too.)

I wasn't too bothered by the BTTF references in Endgame. I did not like though how their solution was to just quick invent time travel so they could fix everything.
