There are many resources easily searchable to support the evidence of 4K blurays vs streams

iTunes? The incredibly limited platform compared to Vudu or even FandangoNow? Fine if you like being limited to Apple devices or a couple others I guess...

If I was single or living in a huge house, I would have no problems with buying discs.

Sadly, I could not afford to buy discs simply due to lack of shelf space and the wife was getting mad at me. So had to prioritise my interests, go digital and only buy disc when its absolutely necessary.
I must admit I’m in a similar situation lately. I wouldn’t have even considered going mostly digital only a year ago, but somehow in that time, things have gotten MUCH better on my TVs Vudu app. I was able to watch Lawrence of Arabia streaming in 4k last week and only saw the quality noticeably dip once for less than a minute in the entire runtime.

However, all this said, I still love physical media and love supporting indie labels like Criterion, Arrow, Eureka, Shout Factory, etc. But, the majority of studio releases, especially on Blu-Ray just don’t grab me anymore. I’ve run out of space and need to keep offloading things for digital where I can.

Even 4K UHD which only last year I would have only gotten physical releases of I’ve started going digital for films I either don’t feel I need to own physically (guilty pleasures and new films I may not care about in five years), or ones that just haven’t gotten a physical 4k release yet such as Heat or Chinatown. I will continue to support physical where I can, but to ignore digital at this point is silly in my opinion unless you have a poor internet connection.

The sad truth is less and less films will probably see physical releases going forward, so I’ll show support where I can, but I’m not going to pass up owning something digitally if it’s cheap and available.

The only way I could see getting on board with streaming versions over disc is if the HDR10 4K UHD never get re-relesed when they have a DV stream or download (in time). And in general once bit-for-bit downloads are a thing I'll be slowly getting on board for anything but my "staples". But as to DV in those cases you have to wonder if it's MEL data and not a proper DV grade. I'd say thats likely, actually.

And I would never succumb to any compromise on titles like this. Even at 80-90 AUD for the trilogy here which is a ridic. price per title it's being brought day one heh

Bit-for-bit (as in similar to disc) downloads are a thing, however the cost to play is HUGE, and your collection's viability is at the mercy of the company staying in business.

I'd go digital 4K if it was less restrictive and didn't have such heavy handed DRM and I was able to download any movie in 4K without heavy DRM to watch later because of my not so fantastic internet(I only get 30 down on a direct link) and could have this downloaded copy for when a title may get it's soundtrack altered, may be censored, updated with a different remaster or removed entirely.

Yes. Thanks for that. I know they are a thing... I just talk right on past the current options though as they are to me no options at all. Its a non starter. It's a never-was

When bit-for-bit DRM free downloads become a thing, then I’ll be on board!

The music industry figured this out with hi res downloads. CDs are squarely a thing of the past.

Streaming can be hit or miss sometimes, usually when you're dealing with a basic HD stream from random-whatever-movie from 2004, or certain streaming platforms. For example, I streamed the last season of Game of Thrones from HBO via Amazon's App, and it was pretty damn terrible (somebody linked a video about it above me, I noticed). I don't know if HBO MAX has improved it, but watching that dark episode compressed to crap on an OLED was not a lot of fun.

HOWEVER... I've been very impressed with UHD streaming. It looks fantastic and I've done comparisons with my disc vs. streaming, and in normal viewing there really wasn't much difference. I get we're on a Blu-Ray forum and people like discs and physical ownership, and I do too, to an extent, but I'm not above buying digital movies from time to time when they're on sale and cheap. Even the movies I do buy on disc, I make sure to use my digital code, because if something happens to my disc (goes missing, gets damaged, stops playing for whatever reason), I won't be too upset because I can still watch it in good quality.

Not everyone lives in the US. Vudu isn't available outside of your country.

Sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone know if the standard Blu-rays will be remastered? I have a feeling they'll just be a crappy repackaging.
