For instance, Arrow has already licensed Waterworld, 12 Monkeys, The 'Burbs, American Werewolf In London and other big guns but others, like BTTF, are off-limits. Hopefully the studio is planning to properly remaster the trilogy for UHD. I think they've had a pretty solid record on UHD so far.
Sure, Arrow has a relationship with Universal, but they nor anyone else has anything with Fox/Disney - whom are not fans of individual catalog titles. However, there is a tiny glimmer of hope given 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Black Hole finally reached BD via DMC....not to mention the Pixar stuff on UHD BD...and likelihood of Star Wars next year. After that though, it all remains to be seen.

BTTF is a big enough franchise that Universal probably feels confident enough to capitalize on.

So... How do we get them to do it right? I know in the end it's not up to us to decide how the films are going to look, but studios have listened before. Star Trek 2 got a new Blu-Ray with the Director's Cut AND removed that horrendous blue tint from the previous transfer. The French Connection got a better transfer even after the director showcased his 'approved' transfer. Shout has re-released numerous Blu-Ray titles with new transfers. There is a small element where the studios do listen and manage to get the job done right. How do we make it work for Back To The Future?

It would certainly be more reassuring if Arrow were producing their own BD version of the trilogy too and if they were to beat them to the punch and release early enough, I might just buy that one....maybe that's what the studio doesn't want to have happen, and maybe it even happened that way last time around.

But it should be easy enough for them to do this right on UHD, so fingers crossed.

The likeliness of Arrow releasing a 4k remastered BTTF trilogy before Universal's UHDs is an extremely slim chance. Sure, Universal has licensed some of their bigger titles to Arrow, with a few released before Universal put out their own UHD. However, not only is BTTF Uni's biggest property, there's a stipulation with Spielberg/Amblin where they won't allow the studio to licence out their productions and/or properties to 3rd party labels. Hence why Shout hasn't been able to get Jaws or it's sequels (despite some of them not being directed by Spielberg, they're all property of Amblin) and how Warner and Universal have released most of Spielberg's productions and properties themselves and not by others.

Universal giving BTTF to Arrow would be like Disney giving Iron Man to Twilight Time.

You really think they'll license out a cash cow when they don't need to?

This conversation is a bit silly because Universal isn’t licensing this out.

Thank you! I was debating myself in calling it out.

All thanks to the brainless ones who don't care about quality.

Don’t go to Bob Gale, for starters. Talk to Steven Spielberg.

No so niche. The format is growing day by day and every time they are coming out more classic films, so I have hopes of a relaunch of Jurassic Park and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

I take it someone in the past tried and Bob either couldn't do anything about it or simply doesn't have the know how to properly oversee it? I hope it's not because he doesn't care.

From what I read it sounds like May 2020. What I want to know is when this might go on pre-order. And will this get a steelbook and the artwork ect... We need details.

I still think it's niche. But I also think the potential for re-releases of those two titles very specifically will be the most likely to be cashed in on again for 4K UHD. They are always coming up with ways to cash cow these movies! At this point I'm totally fine with it for those ones. If they come out with fresh scans/masters and new HDR grade for both. I'll happily purchase again.

2021 and 2023 is the most likely dates, though.

I got a confirm yesterday, this will be physical releases. The plans for Jaws (1975) are true as well.
