I like to have the option for both and pick the one that sounds best. It’s not just about the height channels with Atmos.

They are an improvement over the regular BDs but only just.

DCP had grain intact, it wasn't edge enhanced or DNR'd etc..

Looks like it. Disappointing because they mentioned the stereo tracks here - https://www.backtothefuture.com/news...lu-ray-and-dvd

Does anyone know if the Atmos track is transferred from the new restoration? Because the 5.1 in previously releases has new foley effects.

I agree, its not a night and day difference between both versions but its deffinetly a reasonable step up in terms of quality and sound. The HDR gives the image a more natural palette rather than a exaggerated one which you find with Blu Rays. A good example of a 80's movie done right in 4k would be Ghostbusters.. That movie has the grain in the right places, and you find all of the find detail intact with not even a hint of any scrubbing. Though appreciate it was filmed differently by a different studio, thats what i expect an 80s movie to look like.Universal are known at times to try and polish things abit too much using DNR and edge enhancement to make the image as clean as it can be at the expense of losing fine detail and causing smearing. They did it twice on a movie im a massive fan of, An American Werewolf in London and it took arrow video to correct their mistakes . I really hope they do a similar a job as ghostbusters on the Rocky and Indiana Jones series as these are the two reneowed movie series left from that period to come to 4K

BTTF in 35mm had pretty much the same grain appearance and detail as Gremlins. If this UHD looks similar in terms of that, that is just the way it is.

All I've ever seen mentioned in the specs and covers was "English Dolby Digital 2.0", not a specific name check of the OG 2.0 audio, so I never let myself hope too much, I always assume it's for a commentary. And I don't think I've yet seen Universal include OG audio on a UHD if it wasn't there on the previous Blu-ray, so stuff like JAWS, E.T., Psycho (in principal ), Vertigo and Scarface having the OG audio wasn't a surprise, nor was Blues Brothers' lack of the 2.0 mix. So it appears that BTTF's UHDs aren't going to break that cycle.

I'm not sure which caps you were looking at, but the one's I saw put the blu-rays to shame for multiple reasons.

The Light Cannon™ HDR grade is partly what makes Ghostbusters look as grainy as it does, I'd hate it if every '80s movie looked as ridiculously pumped as that does in 4K.
