Agree with you, the aggressive use of HDR made the level of grain seen in Ghostbusters totally unnatural.

Good idea... that was my 2nd option and looks like I'm going with it... and I have a few certificates too.

Thanks!

From what I can tell from the caps the grain has been rolled off a bit, which is disappointing. But it does look much more natural than the BDs did, and the color timing for part one especially is warmer which is closer to what it looked in the theater last year when I saw it in 35mm. There's still some grain at least, a wolf can hope!

I'm looking forward to re-visiting these films especially because I never picked up the BDs after seeing those hideous DNR+EE screenshot abominations, so it's been a while since seeing parts 2 and 3.

I just saw that recently on the Criterion BD. Yeah, when the rain started and my house didn't fall apart like it did in 2049 with my dual HSU subs I shouted "I WantZ my ATmoSzzz!!!" at the screen, shook my fist, and turned off the movie.

Seriously though, if the movie was mixed in Atmos, it should have it. If you want a remix in Atmos that's fine by me- as long as the OG mix is there!

Air Force One has an Atmos remix and the OG 5.1 track, both lossless. Everyone wins. Sony knows what they are doing.

The bluray is full of artificial sharpness and EE, if we see the UHD has a higher level of detail but as it comes from the negative scan, it's totally natural. In addition, the color temperature is much more appropriate and the image retains the filmic look. The black levels are improved as well.

Yeah, I just about reached that point where I couldn't watch the BDs any longer. Just cannot stand the look of them.

I agree, looks like some grain has been rolled off, but some still in there to keep them looking filmic enough (in conjunction with other aspects of the image) and hopefully in motion these look rather good given they are very likely to be the final, definitive physical media transfers.

So refreshing to see the non-over saturated color.
The old BD gave me flashbacks to the color wheel in primary school.

I haven't checked out any caps for the UHD but it is good to hear that. Just hopefully blues are blue and not teal, because what I saw screened was natural.

It definitely looks less processed but those caps don't really show a tremendous detail boost. A Blu-ray that was less filtered would show the same amount of raw detail IMHO. But HDR will help.

The screening I saw was around the time the old BDs came out, within a month maybe, so I tried to take mental notes of how it looked. Needless to say, I didn't end up buying the BDs either.

For those who already have it, are all the extras only on the 7th disc?

It looks sooooooo much better without all of that godawful processing that's on the BD.

The sharpening in particular on the old disc is horrendous.
