If my calculations are correct, when this forum hits 2020 you're gonna see some serious shit.

I don’t have a track record, all I have is a vague release date from Universal’s press release and a bunch of idiots claiming it’s going to release in May without offering links of their sources. |

Edge, just calm down a bit dude. This is what happens on these 4K forums: people get wind of a release date waaaaaaaay ahead of time (even ahead of those with "industry sources", lol) and we spend the ensuing months debating various things until they actually get confirmed or not, then we go back to debating those same things again/let the thread die, delete as applicable.
It really is safe to say that something BTTF related will be coming in 2020. Who/what/when/where that will entail, who knows. I get that YOU want to know but the exact vital statistics are under wraps, as they always are this far out from release, and if people do know it's not worth their job or their contacts to spill it this early. Calmete muchacho, calmete. |

Don't forget the announcement of a theatrical re-release as well, which is also most likely to happen before a new 4K and Blu-ray set are released. Not likely the studio is going to re-release a 35 year old franchise into cinemas during the height of the summer movie season. Late winter/early spring, or September/October are best for those kind of re-releases, which again, should give you a better idea of the timeline for next year. For those who continue to question the validity of this 4K announcement, this information was all released by Universal Studios, Amblin Entertainment and Back to the Future.com, the official website. I would highly doubt Universal would remix the audio to Dolby Atmos. They haven't yet on any catalog title that I can think of. Bob Gale would have to insist on Atmos.
No true objects are currently utilized with DTS: X and they're locked to 7.1.4 (DTS: X Pro will not change the track encoding - it's currently to be used as a matrix upmixer in >7.1.4 consumer processors), so it's easier to use as a quick and dirty remix tool... just not better. BTTF is soooo getting a DTS:X remix though. (Uni have had ties with DTS going right back to Jurassic Park, they've always been more inclined to use their sound formats.) |

It's also possible that their contracted post service provider had DTS's immersive software tool suite before they had Dolby's or they cut a licensing deal with DTS. Sometimes a studio will go with whatever's the cheapest, not the best. Hence Dolby Vision's limited use on disc. |
