Will this 4K Blu-ray set be another digipack/booklet or a standard Blu-ray case? Hoping for possible individual releases finally as well!

I really wish they would reshoot Michael J. fox's old man Marty with Older Micheal J. Fox and the same with the actress who plays his wife...and Biff as well. It would be a rerelease of BTTF 2. It would be really cool. Maybe even bring back Flea.

Likely/hopefully the same as Cornetto trilogy. Universal thankfully doesn't do digipacks.

Robert Zemeckis is one of the most, if not the most hardlined "movies belong in the form they were released" creative in the industry. This could never happen

Yeah, your right...I wonder if any films have the original actors decades later replay the age appropriate parts where once they wore old people makeup. I really enjoyed the Before Trilogy with Ethan Hawke as they take place over like 20 years.

Not to argue on the prospect that he would do this, but I will argue that Robert Zemeckis is, in fact, NOT the most hardlined director who thinks movies shouldn't be touched after their theatrical release. Beowulf received an alternative cut.

No harm no foul except was that not an alternative version done at the time of editing, most likely? Just because it's technically different from the theatrical version shown on screens doesn't negate him being hardlined on this principle.

There are TV cuts and there are censored versions of movies all the time which hardlined directors have no say in blocking, its legally forced upon their works by standards -- but this was very specifically about the idea of HIM years later agreeing to completely re-do scenes for a movie cut and released 30 years ago.

I hope this is true. I have the Back to the Future trilogy on blu ray, but have no interest in the sequels. It would be awesome to have the option to just buy the original film on 4K. Ironically, it was on HBO a couple months ago. I didn't plan on watching more than the first 5 minutes, and then I got totally sucked in. Ended up watching the whole movie for probably the 85th time.

Same here as well. Refuse to buy the set just to get that classic original, just can't do it regardless of price...well, maybe if they're were practically giving it away lol. I held out on the Blu set, don't mind waiting again if need be. The sequels are "ok" IMO but I personally have zero desire to actually own or watch them again...but the first one, man I wan't that!

Universal may release the movies individually in 4K later after the boxset, or they may not. If you don't want to wait for the separate releases ( which may not come). you can buy the set, and sell the 4K discs of the sequels on ebay. Somebody will buy them.

True. And I suppose I coulda done that back with the BD (I still believe ?? to this date they never came out individually) but passed...I guess I'll wait and see, if the original gets a primo transfer for 4k and the packaging isn't too clunky I just may do that, especially if it's priced friendly enough.

The second one has grown on me to the point I actually like watching it now as a sequel, but the third one I can't even watch anymore.

Do you just never import? As universal always has individuals for their sets in the international market.

But considering that Oct 21st has been officially recognized at "Back to the Future Day", I would assume an October release date would be more realistic, especially being closer to the Holiday/Q4 season. Not to mention that Oct 21st once again falls on Wednesday, as it did in 2015 (both in Part II and on the actual date).

Don't forget the announcement of a theatrical re-release as well, which is also most likely to happen before a new 4K and Blu-ray set are released. Not likely the studio is going to re-release a 35-year-old franchise into cinemas during the height of the summer movie season. Late winter/early spring, or September/October are best for those kinds of re-releases, which again, should give you a better idea of the timeline for next year.

For those who continue to question the validity of this 4K announcement, this information was all released by Universal Studios, Amblin Entertainment and Back to the Future.com, the official website.

That's not true. The studio allowed Back to the Future to come back in theaters (or a theater rather) this past summer. And in 4K no less.

I hear ya, I've just never had a need to as sooner or later the titles I've wanted have almost always surfaced close to home and I'm fairly patient. Hopefully for this one I won't have to bother again and the singles get released (or I cave and get just get the set and give away II & III).

I differ that. I agree that the original is the best, but part 2 is equally as good as the original. Part 3 is not as good but has some good moments that ties in with the first and has a good ending. I will be buying the trilogy when this comes out. Might be even double dipping on it, steelbook and regular 4K. My all time favorite trilogy. Can't wait.

But you usually save only around ten bucks importing an individual foreign copy over the domestic trilogy which makes the trilogy a pretty good value.
