You are testing sharpness with a 1080p calibration disc? Hmmmm.

Not sure who calibrated your TV, but there are many professional calibrators (one with a popular YouTube channel) who advise 0 sharpness on LG OLEDs. But... I'll just leave this topic at that. If 10 makes you happy, go for it.

My TV was calibrated by one of the best people in the business. In fact, he runs his own high end electronics business and the TV shootouts every year. I’d rather trust someone like that than some YouTuber. Just saying.

Can one of you who has a computer drive do BDInfo scans for all three discs WITH chapter and audio information? I don't have one yet.

Same. Even if they had boxed it (mine was in a bubble mailer) this packaging is quite flimsy.

That “youtuber” I was referring to was Vincent Teoh. He is heavily involved in the TV world and was even directly responsible for getting LG to work on some firmware updates for some issues that he brought to their attention.

Jealous

Mine didn't survive the combination of bubble envelope and UPS quite as well:

Attempt #2 arrives tomorrow. At least this time Amazon is handling the delivery itself, which is a promising sign.

I can only imagine he is referring to lip sync issues, but I certainly don't have any issues connected to my Denon receiver, and I don't need to manually tweak the delays.
I recall having a couple of issues with lip syncing occasionally. I ended up sending my audio directly from the player with a dedicated HDMI audio out - bypassing going through the tv altogether. Never had an issue since with lip syncing from my player.

Yes, if you search the thread you’ll see a bunch of us with the same problem. I called customer service today and they fixed it for me. Got mine switched to in store pickup.

The panny 820 is sounding more attractive to me by the day. Having to go through several menus in the x700 to turn DV on and off is a pain, but it’s especially annoying for the handful of 4Ks in DV that don’t actually say they have DV on the box.

There’s also the ‘flicker’ at every cut which I can only guess is the metadata not changing in time with the shot. You’ll have a cut and a split second later the screen will flick up in brightness. Seems to be a 50/50 chance whether it happens or not... I eject and reload the disc, play the same scene and it’s perfect. Then watching it another time it can kick in again to varying degrees. It’s not a TV thing, because it never happens to any DV content from other sources on the same settings.

Another major benefit of the 820 is the HDR Optimizer. It is a fantastic feature, read up about that if you are unfamiliar. I was also extremely impressed by it's upscaling of 1080p blu-rays, especially compared to the x700, where I preferred letting the TV handle the upscaling.

The 820 is a corking player. Easily the best value UHD spinner that's still commercially available.

The Sony UHD players have noise reduction enabled by default when upscaling content, I dread to think how many people are using those decks and have no idea.

Both my oleds (see sig.) have been calibrated and he set sharpness to 10 with edge enhancement to off.

When you play an HDR10 disc with Dolby Vision enabled on the player, does the top part (above the “HDMI OUTPUT” section) say “HDR” or the Dolby Vision logo? If it says “HDR”, then I can conclude that the player does indeed read the Dolby Vision data on Dolby Vision discs. Sorry, I don’t know much about Sony players because, quite frankly, I’m never buying one, especially due to Sony’s Dolby Vision situation, and the fact that they don’t have any plans of ever supporting HDR10+ (I have and always will only consider displays and players that support both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.)

The Dolby Vision picture looks more natural to me in those screen shots.
