Looks like I’m getting my Gruv order in today. Originally it was slated to be delivered on November 9th. But I checked this morning for and it’s scheduled for today...giggity..

Awhile ago, someone shared a little life hack in regards to the digibook for those not fond of grabbing the disc edges all the time. I didn't want to slice up and bend the sleeves, so I thought of a non-destructive method. Just some ribbon tabs threaded through the hole. See attached pics.

If you want to do the same, I used half-inch satin ribbon. Each piece cut to about 5 inches, but you can adjust how you like. It was cheap polyester stuff, so be sure to singe the edges to prevent fraying.

That's a neat trick. It would have ruined the look of the book design slightly, but they really should have just made a small cut-out to the center of the disc on each page so you could slide them out with your finger.

Or just not use this type of packaging period lol. Universal Studios being cheap with their packaging, and it clearly shows with the way they've been sending out replacement discs for Psycho 4K/blu-rays in a bubble mailer with nothing else besides the discs inside.

Memory is extremely unreliable and it's very unlikely they remember what a guy they saw a few times over a week 30 years ago looks like. They appear not to remember him at all actually. They think Biff is the reason they fell in love!

Of course, if he had done that the movie wouldn't exist, so...
Even better he could have just told Marty in 1985 what would happen. But they were boxed in by the ending of BTTF1.

Really they shouldn't arrive in 1985A at all because they should disappear in 2015 the moment Biff returns. (Who cares if the neighborhood around them changes and they don't notice it, they have no business existing at all in 2015 since no time machine is ever invented in this timeline. They should be part of that transformation.)

But if you ignore that, what should happen is Marty, Doc, Jennifer, Einstein, and the DeLorean should fade from existence shortly after returning to 1985A (like old Biff does in the deleted scene), because yeah they're in Switzerland, an institution, or somewhere else.

I like the book packaging as a design, looks and feels really nice, it's just not very practical the way it is. I doubt it's particularly cheap either. Supposedly this came as a single, fat, regular Blu-ray case in some territories, now that's being cheap.

People here would probably have thrown a fit, but with both the environment and space being issues I would have loved it if they had switched to some kind of thin, all-paper packaging as standard for movies instead of the plastic keep cases. Like those mini vinyl replica gatefold sleeves on some CD releases:
[Show spoiler]

Why are slipcovers so coveted? Because the paper looks and feels classy, and it hides the plastic, which looks cheap and tacky.

As for the book packaging, I give it a 8/10 for presentation, and 3/10 for practicality. As soon as I got this, I did the same that I do with all non-standard packaging: very delicately remove the discs, and transfer them to blank cases with custom artwork.

I would not have a problem with that, so long as they didn't damage the discs in any way, and provided adequate protection until I could get them into standard cases, of which I keep a backup supply.

In my view, the slip covers hearken back to the one thing laser discs had, and always will have IMHO, above anything that has come since: The gatefold jacket presentations with the original artwork were simply gorgeous. It has noting to do with making standard cases look less "cheap," but if done right (foil, embossing, alternate artwork, etc) they can add to the presentation of the overall package

Obviously it's nice with slipcases and slipcovers and obis, and stuff that folds out with more space for more images and so on, regardless of what's inside, but I still think there's something to the material itself.

People collect vinyl partly because the packaging looks and feels nice. People collect LaserDiscs partly because the packaging looks and feels nice. In contrast how many people collect the by now almost as vintage CD or cassette jewel cases, or DVD keep cases, or VHS clamshells? No one, because the plastic looks and feels like crap even if they have the original art and aren't plastered with banners and badges (which is rare.)

The glossy black 4K cases or clear Criterion/Arrow cases are a step up from standard Blus, but from a visual and tactile standpoint they still feel mostly utilitarian and don't look particularly classy on a shelf. For me the only movie packaging that really "sparks joy" is that type of matte, slipcased digipak like Criterion's David Lynch titles, and these Universal books are quite nice as well as mentioned, both mostly made out of paper. Of course not viable for any old release, but something like a mini-gatefold sleeve, perhaps Blu-ray case height, I think could have maybe worked and looked a bit nicer.

Picked this up used today for $25. Only the Blu-ray for 2 had the standard book style case scratches, but it at least included the digital copies! Can't wait to watch them!

Exact same thing for me. Showed up yesterday. My Gruv order was from EBay and excited I got my $10 set with free shipping. I guess I’ll return my steelbook. As much as I like steelbooks, I’m not a massive collector of them unless I can get a good deal (like the Pixar movies for $10 or so). $65 vs $10? A no-brainer.

French Manu like...do I miss some thing? Amazon-France have a steelbook that I have in front of me here, or are you only interested in the steelbook that is one part of the trilogy?
