Already been checked. As was said, it's there on the HDR10 layer and it's even there on the new 1080p Blu derived from the new 4K transfer, albeit less obvious owing to the lower resolution of that format. So this is an issue with the new transfer at source, not the encoding to disc.

They do make good use of Atmos though, lots of distinct overhead effects.

Edit: Comparing to the 25th anniversary BD, I can barely tell the difference. Returning this set as defective lol.
I use NX7 with 96” 21:9 screen viewed from 8ft away. The difference between the BD and the UHD is night and day. There must something severely wrong with either your setup or your eyes, or both.

.. legit weird.. I’m going through everything tonight to be sure lol. And no I never considered the BDs to be very good looking discs. Maybe I’m expecting too much? But the UHDs look like they have DNR and other processing going on, grain doesn’t seem right.

The UHDs definitely are better than the BDs, but not enough to justify upgrading.

Keep in mind that BTTF II has the most opticals of the trilogy (a couple hundred shots) and it was among ILM's first forays into digital compositing. Back in 1989, the VFX plates were scanned at sub-2K resolution in 8 bit color. This is likely as good as the movie will ever look. It's hardly defective! And it is a definite improvement on the old blu-ray as Geoff says.

Which shots were digital composites? There can't have been many, the VistaGlide shots were good old fashioned opticals (albeit done on 8-perf to maintain quality going into the final 4-perf reduction).

This has probably been answered before, but does the U.K. set have the new transfers on the BDs as well?

Or is it only the U.S. set where this is the case?

I still need to pick up a copy (had to do some serious budgeting and saving last month).

I just finished watching the first film on my Sony X700 4K player and had no freezing issues or any other glitches at all throughout the film.

The UK 4K set does indeed have the remastered Blu-ray discs.

The Jaws 19 shark in II and the reflection of the train on DeLorean's windshield (prior to hitting it) in III are the ones I recall.

By the way, those VistaGlide shots finally look good and filmic! Albeit softer than the rest, due to being optical composites and some generations away from the negative. But the old BluRay really sucked in those shots, as the whole "DNR+resharpen" process did not work with those shots at all. As a result they used to stick out like a sore thumb.

The 2010 BD looked disappointing even back in 2010 and I’m not even that sensitive to DNR and sharpening but I’ve been waiting for a remaster for several years.

I ended up just buying the remastered BDs but they are an obvious improvement. They do look kind of soft but it’s understandable considering how the films were made. I considered buying the 4K set but I went with the Target exclusive and I’m quite satisfied. I do wonder if HDR would make a big difference but I’m just glad the image looks a lot less processed now.

Indeed, I finished part 2 and 3, did a lot more comparisons on part 2. Absolutely is an upgrade, just not pretty 4K. Dunno if it’s the best it can ever look.. but I’m not buying these again unless I can actually feel up Marty’s mom.

3 is gorgeous btw, easily the best looking of the three.

Yup. They looked particularly shitty on BD and I had a feeling Universal would do the usual overprocessing again, but they looked much more consistent on UHD.

For me, the colour timing on the UHD itself is enough to warrant the upgrade, plus the Atmos tracks are rather amazing.

Like Forrest Gump, the man pushed the enevelope and other directors and the industry really benefit from it being done... and owe a lot to these pioneers of filmmaking. But those movies are stuck being flawed PQ from the technical limitations.

Yeah, I didn't love how these looked but they were consistent enough that it didn't bother me too much.

This release is an absolute joke. It's just a quick cash grab nowhere near being worthy of true 4K!
The grain throughout all three films kills the PQ my BRD versions upscaled look A LOT better than these! Also the first movie freezes whenever it feels like it the only real good thing about these releases is the atmos and that's about it! If i knew they were going to look THIS bad I would have saved all the money it cost me to import the steelbook here and kept the BRD box set. Definitely NOT A MUST OWN!!
