That poster always makes me feel nostalgic. As a little kid, I watched Part II first (which is kinda bizarre) and it was my favourite of the trilogy for quite a while. I watched the VHS repeatedly.

I still can't believe the volume of hoverboard rumors that went around in the wake of that movie. I think the most common was "In some shots, they filmed with a real prototype and Mattel will have them out for Christmas!"

To be fair, those weren't just kids making stuff up - that was part of the movie marketing machine. They actually had producers/etc. saying that stuff to the media - I'm pretty sure one of the docs on the existing discs shows this.

Y'all just reminded me of The Secrets of the Back to the Future Trilogy, where the hoverboards rumour was actually addressed.

Zemeckis said that was trolling because he knew parents groups would make a fuss and thus promote his movie in the process. Because what kids hear that hoverboards are real and their parents are outraged and is against any of that... Guy is sharp asf. Controversy = $$$$

There was indeed an official press release detailing the studio’s 2020 plans for Back to the Future with a sentence saying the 4K is coming that year

Where we're going, we don't need roads… be on the lookout for theatrical events and the debut of the "Back to the Future" trilogy in 4K from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, as well as a celebration from Turner Classic Movies (TCM) later in 2020.

So yeah, it's the 35th Anniversary of BTTF but which would be a more likely 4K release date?
- July 3 (theatrical debut)
- October 21 (date set in the DeLorean in Part II)
- Today (more convenient for all of us)

The 25th Anniv was released in October 2010 as was a 1-day theater release in 2015 but who knows. If only I could go back to the future and find out...

Part II has long been my favourite and is for my money the greatest time travel movie ever made. Love it to death.

Same here. I saw it with my dad when it opened here Nov '89.

I quickly rented (then bought) the VHS of the original.

That thing looks kind of awful, with no control whatsoever... but kudos to them for trying! Perhaps they’ll finally make it happen one day.

I know they aren't unfortunately gonna include the original mixes, most likely just the same remixes as before from the DVD/Blu-ray releases

I still think it's important to preserve the original stereo mixes though because they do have some small differences compared to the remixes

I know there might be more differences but these two were the only I could find without doing a super extensive comparison

Back to the Future - Audio Alterations - YouTube

They will probably receive DTS: X 7.1.4 remixes as has been Universal's MO for catalog 4k titles. They rarely remix with Dolby Atmos.

I'm going to predict that that this will be released around October much like the 25th and 30th Blu-ray sets were years back.
