There's a strong possibility it will drop again during next week. I received mine today and the packaging is super cheap but no playback issues yet. The HDR works extremely well with the 3rd film benefiting the most.
It's truly a joy to experience these in 4K Dolby Vision. |

I apologize if this has already been noted (I was reading this thread regularly until a bit after release, and checked the last few pages).
I've got a Sony UBP-X800. The movie had no issues playing through the dinner scene that is giving everyone problems. But at the end of the clocktower sequence, right after Marty/Delorean vanish and Doc runs into the street, it freezes up until the "crazy drunk driver" line or so. Played through just fine on my Xbox. |

Alright, now I'm ****ing pissed because this is the 2nd set I've owned from Universal that comes with playback issues. It occurs in part 3 when Doc is going over the plan with Marty in his shop about how to use the train to push the car to 88mph.
No issues up to this point in the movie or with the other two flicks, and the disc itself, though hard to get out of the package, has no visible signs of wear, or at least nothing strong enough to ruin playback. Seriously I have ****ing dvds scratched up from over time that work better than this, without issue. |

5 minutes in on disc 1 and the disc is stunning. Great upgrade and the atmos mix is great and the film looks so good that on the strickland scene I can actually see the camera go in and out of focus.

Overall this is a great upgrade. It lacks the sharpening, heavy DNR(most of it) and the oversaturation of the old BD. Detail is great and despite some DNR and minor crush and softness fron FX this is a great disc. The atmos is the real killer here and a huge improvement over the 5.1 and the immersion is great like hearing the spacial sound of the enchantment dance.

Part 1 looked great except for the 10 minutes or so when we get to the dance. Now would I have noticed if I didn't read Geoff's review before watching, that is hard to say. But it looks like a crappy bluray or worse for that portion of the film. No detail and highlights have reddish color bleed. It should be recalled and fixed, but it won't be. I was not a fan of the revised lightning strikes at the end either. They now looked too cartoon-ish to me. Maybe I am just used to how they looked previously. Audio sounded good and very detailed. Had no problems playing the disc, but they aren't going back in those pages ever! Thanks Gruv!

Overall my quick thoughts are as follows. 1 kills the old BD butbhas some minor issues like the 10 minutes in the later part of the film, it also suffers from some minor dnr during the 50s scenes. The 2nd is great and despite a light touch of dnr this is a near reference disc excluding the fx shots which look quite poor in 4K. The 3rd is amazing and completely obliterates the near dnr'ed to oblivion BD and I don't have any complaintd about it at all. The remixes are fantastic and sound much better than the 5.1 tracks on the old discs.

Just noticed something very odd. At the end of Part II, the delivery of the Western Union guy's line "we had a little bet going as to whether this Marty would actually be here" has been subtly altered. In the original, he says the line without pause. In the new audio, there's slight pause before "be here". I know these films like the back of my hand, and it stuck out immediately. I just popped in my old disc and confirmed that the pause in the line is not present on the prior release. Anyone else notice this? I mean, it's no big deal, but it makes me wonder why the change.
Here's a quick comparison. Original audio first, immediately followed by the new audio: https://chirb.it/1Lf1c9 Last edited by Croweyes1121; 11-27-2020 at 05:55 PM. |

I remember other instances in that or Part 1 where there was a pause I didn't recognize but figured I misheard it and so forgot about it, don't even know where it happened or if it was real. But when I heard that, and backed up and listedned again, I wondered whether it was really the only instance. Also, for whatever it's worth, on the UHD, in Part 1, Doc's line at Twin Pines Mall "Marty, You made it." is the same as the Blu-ray and DVD. The VHS had a more enthusiastic version of the line. But I don't think we know which version aired in the theater. |
