I doubt it was an intentional change, you can hear it drop out. It's just a **** up from whoever was remixing it.

I remember other instances in that or Part 1 where there was a pause I didn't recognize but figured I misheard it and so forgot about it, don't even know where it happened or if it was real. But when I heard that, and backed up and listedned again, I wondered whether it was really the only instance.

Also, for whatever it's worth, on the UHD, in Part 1, Doc's line at Twin Pines Mall "Marty, You made it." is the same as the Blu-ray and DVD. The VHS had a more enthusiastic version of the line. But I don't think we know which version aired in the theater.
Disc 1 contains the theatrical release, same as with disc 2 & 3 of their respective films, so I see what we grew up with on the VHS as a screw up.

If this wasn't an intentional change, then what do you call... this?

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...4#post18328594

And I said this could be due to the Atmos difference compared to the DTS-HD MA track, but you can notice such difference even in the trailer put on Youtube by Universal. So if you can spot the difference from there, then there's no doubt it has been modified.

I still need to check all 3 movies to see if something else has been changed, so far this is the only bit I noticed. I know the 1st movie footage sounded differently in the end compared to the 2nd (where they reused the footage), but the 4K sounds different in these few seconds from part II than all previous releases.

If this was an intentional change then it makes me wonder if they did this for something else.

We need to remember what Universal did with Jaws (1975), with a slightly altered soundtrack, where the remix replaced old sound effects and foley with new material. It took years for them (and also for Warner and Superman: The Movie (1978)) to provide the original unaltered track in subsequent releases.

I guess they all think we will never spot these changes or that 100% of users will be OK with them. How hard can it be to dedicate the rest of the disk space to include another track without these changes?

Some of that stuff is incredibly smudgy on the UHD and not just for the subsequent VFX shots of the three McFlys all played by Michael J. Fox, as the first shot of Jennifer being led into the living room ("lights on?") has been softened to hell and back. The old disc is substantially more detailed in that shot and several that follow, so I genuinely think they've tried to play up the disorientation of the character by smudging it like this. Again, probably giving someone too much credit but when the rest of the movie looks as finely filmic as it does then there's got to be some sort of reason for this.
I felt the need to contribute sth to this scene in particular as well.

Rather disappointed in general too - still looks rather processed/"ugly". And now an audio dropout as well (didn't watch those yet...). What is it with Universal and BTTF?

Nothing you can do with the DNR unfortunately, but at least one can certainly mux the original stereo from the LD in and be happy about it

That is awful, it sounds so bad now. A natural pause would have been okay (although still annoying it's not the original) but that just sounds glitched to me, like a possible audio drop out/stutter.

Yep, and it’s on both the 4K disc and the remastered BD as well, so I assume the 5.1 mixes on the BD’s are indeed derived from the Atmos remixes (which I suspected anyway since the warbling audio at the dance had been fixed on both, but I thought maybe that was something they went out of their way to go back and correct...but something this minor, they’ve got to be the same mixes for the most part).

Yes, and they want 90 quid for it, yes, 90. NINE ZERO

Aside from the UHD set, you get a cardboard box, a diagram, a map and a receipt. Not forgetting the three plastic “fuel cell” tubes of course.

Just listened to the little audio anomaly myself and while clearly a glitch (compared it with my old BD as well), I can live with that and think I wouldn't have noticed myself (passes as a brief pause for thought for me). PQ also didn't seem bad at all here (even before seeing the old BD). So there's something.

These changes aren't even remotely comparable to Jaws. Jaws sounds like an old movie remixed with brand new effects. Whether or not you're aware of the changes going in, it's impossible to not notice how out of place they are. I had no idea things had been changed in Back to the Future until they were pointed out to me.

The pause doesn’t sound weird to me at all. The guy’s talking pretty fast so a little pause to help him finish his sentence sounds fine to me. If it was a mistake at least it happened right where it did and not in the middle of a word.

“We had a little bet goin’ as to whether this Marty would actual.....ly be here.”

My point in pointing it out wasn’t to say it was unnatural per se, just that it’s been changed.

Oh, I wasn’t trying to say you thought it was unnatural. Just wanted to give my opinion that although it’s a strange mistake, at least it sounds fine. I could’ve worded my post better.

Yeah, it’s just so peculiar how these random things happen. No biggie, and as you say, at least it doesn’t necessarily detract from anything. It’s just strange. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have such a memory for these things and could just ignore things like this. Sort of a curse most days. lol

If this is an audio dropout then it's different from the other instances I've seen. In this scene at 1h39m35s (the "would actually be... here") you can't notice the movie soundtrack being interrupted. And in the very brief pause between "actually" and "be here" there isn't an abrupt insertion of "silence", in the middle of these words, denoting that area of the audio track is different from the rest. It's so subtle to a point you'll never notice any difference, if you didn't pay enough attention and knew in the previous releases the "be here" that follows "would actually" was said quickly by the actor. The pause in the case of the UHD isn't awkward, it sounds natural.
