Marty McFly is in every shot anyone is talking about. I knew that as an 8 year old and I still know that as a 38 year old. 30 years of inside baseball "knowledge" just for knowledge sake doesn't change how a movie plays, for me.

I have a rather odd and specific question.
Does anyone have the Best Buy Steelbook version of these films and a Dolby Vision setup? I have an LG CX 55" with a UBP-X800M2 and I only get HDR and no Dolby Vision. Can anyone confirm that this title has Dolby Vision on the disc. The disc info lists DV, the back of the box lists DV, but it looks like the actual discs have HDR10+ only. If I look at the ripped video file, I can see the HDR stream and the HDR10+ enhancement layer, but I don't see the Dolby Vision enhancement layer. I know the streaming versions have Dolby Vision. Here's the Mediainfo output from the video file for the first film: General ID : 0 (0x0) Complete name : H:\BACK_TO_THE_FUTURE\BDMV\STREAM\00294.m2ts Format : BDAV Format/Info : Blu-ray Video File size : 73.1 GiB Duration : 1 h 56 min Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 90.2 Mb/s Maximum Overall bit rate : 109 Mb/s Video #1 ID : 4113 (0x1011) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : HEVC Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Format profile : Main 10@L5.1@High HDR format : SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version 1, HDR10+ Profile B compatible Codec ID : 36 Duration : 1 h 56 min Width : 3 840 pixels Height : 2 160 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 (Type 2) Bit depth : 10 bits Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.2020 Transfer characteristics : PQ Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant Mastering display color primaries : Display P3 Mastering display luminance : min: 0.0050 cd/m2, max: 4000 cd/m2 Maximum Content Light Level : 1000 cd/m2 Maximum Frame-Average Light Level : 755 cd/m2 Video #2 ID : 4117 (0x1015) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : HEVC Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Format profile : Main 10@L5.1@High HDR format : SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible Codec ID : 36 Duration : 1 h 56 min Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 (Type 2) Bit depth : 10 bits Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.2020 Transfer characteristics : PQ Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant Mastering display color primaries : Display P3 Mastering display luminance : min: 0.0050 cd/m2, max: 4000 cd/m2 Audio #1 ID : 4352 (0x1100) Menu ID : 1 (0x1) Format : MLP FBA AC-3 16-ch Format/Info : Meridian Lossless Packing FBA with 16-channel presentation Commercial name : Dolby TrueHD with Dolby Atmos Muxing mode : Stream extension Codec ID : 131 Duration : 1 h 56 min Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 448 kb/s Maximum bit rate : 7 626 kb/s Channel(s) : 8 channels Channel layout : L R C LFE Ls Rs Lb Rb Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz Frame rate : 31.250 FPS (1536 SPF) Compression mode : Lossless Stream size : 372 MiB (0%) Service kind : Complete Main Number of dynamic objects : 11 Bed channel count : 1 channel Bed channel configuration : LFE Thanks in advance! |

That's interesting about that shot, but the first 2 pieces of evidence presented in that video are not convincing at all. It should have led with Wilson's testimony which is pretty conclusive and then pointed out where you can see Stoltz.

Given that they were almost done, I wonder what the movie would have been like if they had just stayed with that. Maybe it would have been even more popular. Or would it have even been a hit at all? Probably would have become a cult classic if nothing else. Who knows?

You're going dangerously close to disrupting the space time continuum by suggesting there is any reality where Stoltz as MM would have resulted in more popular reception of BTTF. Sounds insane. Every creative input and Steven Spielberg was in agreement on the miscasting. Cast members agreed with it then. And in subsequent home video and print interviews. I can't prove you wrong, but the idea reads like one of those "said no one ever" memes; until this thread...

Well I think flop is probably more likely than a bigger hit but there's just no way to know. But it would be interesting if it was still huge despite a (possible) miscasting of the lead.
