I've always thought they should have just jumped ahead with Marty and Doc saying, "Wow...that certainly was a crazy adventure with Jennifer who is back home safe now," and never explained what happened before going off on another adventure. I find the first 40 minutes of Part II to be kind of tedious, though the future vision is obviously one of the most famous parts of the whole series. |

Even though Michael J.Fox was the leading actor and was good in his character, I always thought Christopher Lloyd stole the show in all three movies. Without Dr. Emmett Brown's energetic, agility performance, the Back to the Future movies would've been lame.

The box is (without a doubt) nicer than first one I own, but I prefer the covers of the keep cases of the original release. |

Even Matthew Broderick was considered but he turned it down because he was unavailable. |

It definitely seemed like he was going to rape her in the film, 100%. But I don't think he did so in the original timeline and here's the reason: why would Biff have let George dance with Lorraine, let alone kiss her if he was there at the dance originally? He would have told George "I don't want to see you at that dance, McFly." And George would've complied. Or if he didn't do that and was there, he would've acted like that red-headed kid that tell's George, "Scram, McFly, I'm cutting in." But we know none of this happened. So the question is why. I think Biff only went to the dance because he wanted to find "Calvin Klein" and get even for wrecking his car, which didn't happen originally. He states this to his gang in BTTF II. So the only reason he's there is because he assumes Marty will be there. It's the only answer that makes sense to me. I think George was really badly hurt by the car accident originally and he and Lorraine spent all their free time together during that week before the dance while he convalesced. Biff probably barely even ran into either of them during that time. Why? Well, we saw Biff harassing Lorraine in the cafeteria and she slaps him. He then physically assaults her. I think without Marty there to intervene and start a fight, Strickland may have suspended Biff and told him he couldn't go to the dance or he'd be expelled. In fact, he may have been told to stay away from them entirely for the rest of High School, which is the only way I could see them remaining a couple without Biff constantly threatening George to leave Lorraine. It's possible he only began bullying George again when he became his supervisor at work, after George and Lorraine married. Last edited by Maxwell Everett; 05-10-2021 at 01:57 AM. |

Oddly, I was thinking about the time between the peeping tom scene and the dance the last time I watched the movie. The parents seem to have left that out in telling the story to the kids. I have a feeling you may be right, considering she takes Calvin's pants off, and everything else. She was just as big a perv as George was, a match made in celluloid heaven. As for the talk of Doc Brown, I always like to point out his first scene, where he he holds Marty in front of a speeding car for the first test of the time machine, and is surprised that it worked. The doc is a good guy, extremely intelligent, but he's not all there. Also, that last scene with the flying train was more for the audience. It would have been sad if they'd never been able to say goodbye to each other. Lastly, here's a couple casting documents I probably should have shared last night for anyone who hasn't seem them, but rum got in the way. Depp and Stevens are the two that always stand out to me. With the benefit of hindsight, I really don't think it would be that different a film with either of them. Cognoscente mentioned Tom Cruise, but I think he was busy with Legend or Jerry Bruckheimer. I couldn't find anything online though. Rob Lowe's another obvious name not mentioned, and I think St Elmo's Fire had him unavailable. I had to scan one of these just now, and the envelope labeled "Do not open until 1985" fell on the floor. That gave me a chuckle. ![]() ![]() |

It's still weird, though, that Tom Cruise's name has never been brought up in documentaries, interviews or articles. Matthew Broderick being too busy didn't stop him from being mentioned in the Ultimate Visual History book.
The below letter surprises me because I didn't realize that Eric Stoltz was accepted so early. The official story always gives the impression that he was cast at the last minute in November due to the filmmakers constantly wanting to hold out in case someone better (or more famous) became available. Like Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez is another example of an actor who could have been Marty if it wasn't for St. Elmo's Fire (which began filming in October). Spielberg even referenced him when talking about Eric's firing in an '85 issue of Rolling Stone: “I should have waited, and yet I wanted the film out for the summer. And for the record, I think Eric Stoltz is a marvelous actor, in the same league with Sean Penn, Emilio Estevez and Matthew Modine.” Speaking of Modine, he said: "My best friend Eric Stoltz had been cast in the part. They were having some trouble and they said ‘You have 24 hours to decide if you want to replace him.’ I said ‘Why are you replacing him?’ and they said, ‘There’s just some problems.’ I think of actors in terms of cereal, so they were looking for Shredded Wheat and I’m Cheerios and maybe Eric Stoltz was Fruit Loops." ![]() |

Yea, it is odd that Cruise's name doesn't even pop up as a joke or a what-if? Word must have been out that he was completely unavailable, for whatever reason. Maybe they didn't want people thinking about that scene in All The Right Moves as Marty wakes from his concussion, and upsetting that wonderful, ratings board. Also, it's funny that Modine didn't want to be Maverick or Marty, chose Kubrick, and somehow, it didn't quite work out for him. He did get to do Memphis Belle though, with Billy Zane, Courtney Gaines and Eric Stoltz. Hollywood's a small town.

It's crazy how busy Emilio was back then, since his career slowed shortly afterward. It would have been wild to see him as Marty right after he flew a car in Repo Man, and Chris Lloyd had just appeared in a film that begins almost exactly like BttF, right up to a vehicle that can transcend time and space (Buckaroo Banzai). |

The below photo intrigues me. The only guy at the back who liked Eric was the guy who played 3D, Casey Siemaszko. In an interview, he said: "It sucked when Eric was replaced. He is a nice guy. I didn’t get it at the time." ![]() |
