How about Dave saying he always wears a suit to the office? It's Saturday. Why is he going to work? And why do Marty's successful older siblings still live at home? Speaking of homes, the parents have successful jobs but live in the same house they lived in when George had a lousy job...

That's the problem with watching your favorite movies repeatedly. You start to notice things like that (just noticed the other day the kid (Melvin) in Tremors has no parents).

I don't mind that part of it though, as clearly they're a very successful family at whatever it is they were doing and George decided to write a book as he neared retirement or something. Or maybe he wrote professionally, it just wasn't fiction.

But then if they were that successful then why are all the kids still living at home and why are they even in the same house as shirley they'd have gotten a bigger place in a more prestigious neighbourhood and ARRRGH you guys have got me doing it too

Are all three kids living at home, or did they just come over for Saturday breakfast?

The space-time continuum makes sure that some things are always the same.

That is certainly possible, but it still doesn't explain why Dave is going to his office job on Saturday.

Real Estate? I'm sure there's plenty of offices he could be in on a Saturday.

That's a possibility, too.

So...here we are. Discussing/explaining possible plotholes in 36 year-old movies. I'm not going to pass judgement on anyone but myself. I am such a dork...

It's the best. US version is nicer as it has the movie artworks inside the case, but if you're a worrier about scratches from the cardboard pullouts then the more simple UK version is better (personally never had a problem with the pull outs).

Here are my thoughts on a couple of them.

It's been 30 years and Biff is clearly intimidated by them now. It's possible she just forgave him, or blocked it out even.

She emphasizes it's his first novel, so I just figured he had stuck with short stories (like in high school) and articles before that.

Lot of banks are open limited hours on Saturdays as well.

And Marty's siblings are in their mid-20's at latest, so living at home after college a few years wasn't unheard of then.

Better than b****ing about packaging or minute errors or pricing, etc.

I always took it that the space time continuum has to align people in this kind of way. It's obviously apologetics but I do believe this to have been a family ritual event that the two older siblings were there.

As to the claim they shouldn't be living there anymore, they DO have a nicely appointed house so this idea there is incongruence that they didn't trade up location? It seems like they aren't "rich" but are 'successful'... meaning happy as middle class, comfortable living.

I think the messaging is they are simply NOT unhappy and scraping by on subsistence lower-middle class mediocrity any longer, due to George standing up for himself and forging confidence to succeed. Again success not equating to riches necesarily.

That car seems like their one single *uber* indulgence in life. Plus being able to easily swing buying the 4x4 for Marty as well...

Are you mistaking a dark HDR to SDR conversion as to how it would actually look when viewed on an HDR TV? Like caps-a-holic screenshots? The 4K screenshots were tone-mapped to more closely match the brightness of the 25th anniversary edition. The 4Ks aren't actually that dark.

Supposedly in the novelization or unfilmed scene or something like that it's said his parents are gambling addicts who were always leaving him alone while they went to Las Vegas.

But for whatever reasons the encoders on BR shat out this terrible chroma compression, I think even a new encode on a UHD66 (minus all the extra language tracks) would be fine but as any theoretical re-release would have lots of language tracks (eh, it’s Warners) then it’s got to be on a UHD100, just in case.
I was actually just looking at 100m film, can't remember atm, that had 75Mbps and no extra language tracks on a 66. I would seriously take that over all this nonsense with 50Mbps. Damn these people. Those extra language tracks really do some damage. If they need to use those then 100 discs should be mandatory. Hell any classic film should be mandatory.

Also, do people generally think BttF looks too dark? Or does it just depend on your set? I would think top sets look pretty good with it.

I don't think it looked too dark. Personally. Having seen the disc in motion via DV. If anyones impression it was was based on screencaps posted in here? God have mercy on their slow learnin' souls.

I must say I'm disappointed. The UHD is certainly a better scan, has its grain mostly intact and all but the colors are just off for me. The whole pallet tonality is very "contrasty". The blacks are "too black" if you can call it that and the overall picture isn't as lively as in previous versions. It feels too technically correct for its own good.
Going back to older versions - warts and all is more pleasant for me. What can I say... I don't like the darkness.
