I just re-watched it and it still looks good to me ha. Maybe the HDR is the reason, and it’s mostly night scenes.

I do notice it in the daylight scenes when he first gets into town. That looks smoother, for sure.

Some mentioned it. (see below)

Well, would you look at that... But I could've sworn you were one of the people that fought back on my low-res proxy hypothesis.

I may have fought back against your reasoning because no-one actually knows what they did, but we know that they did it because it's plain to see.

LOL, I still reference some of your older reviews when I'm like "I thought this one had X..." This was one in particular that triggered me to buy the set, because even with something as bad as the chroma issue (which normally sets you off something fierce), you still gave it a solid endorsement. That meant that the rest had to be amazing, and it was. (ahem, is)

I just now clued into what you were getting at, so I checked, and hmmm. I'm still not saying they DNRed those bright daylight shots. I'm saying the whole reel is of a lower resolution, because that's what it looks like. (I even checked the open matte 35mm print floating around to confirm the cue marks.) Though I have since seen enough bright DNRed shots to shake a stick at, so yeah I guess that was a bit unwise (it was also almost 4 years ago, before I really started frequenting this place)

Yeah. For me, losing that ultra-digital look from the old BDs made these nice even if they are not top tier.

Is the re-release with the individual cases well worth the double dip?? I plan on selling my OG set if it's worth it.

It’s worth it if the individual cases with original poster art covers are that important to you. Otherwise, they’re the exact same discs.

Does this mew release come with the original audio? I see an extra Dolby Digital track on the audio specs on the Blu-Ray listing compared to the 2020 release.

The discs are exactly the same. The *only* difference is new packaging.

Yep. They should have done this from the very beginning with the 2020 4k release. I got the Zavvi exclusive UK steelbooks with the original art when they still had them and they look great. I wouldn't be surprised if they release those steelbooks to the US next year for the 40th anniversary.

Geoff did you see what happened with The Craft restoration from Sony? It looks like certain parts of the film are below UHD resolution just like BttF's reel 2 problem. Do you think the original elements were lost/burned and Sony/Uni were using a lower quality source to fill the gaps because they had to?

The Craft has some opticals to contend with, it's no more complicated than that in that case (tho Shout's diabolical compression of those moments on the UHD doesn't help).

Sorry if this was mentioned before, but does the new packaging release definitely also include that “bonus disc” from the 35th?

It sounds like it, but I couldn’t find confirmation of number of discs.

Thanks

Did the original theatrical release have Doc’s more excited “You made it!” or did it have the more subdued delivery of that line?
