Oh nice! Maybe that means we could see it on BD here, ideally with the new 4K set.

Any difference between the DVD bonus features in the Blu-ray set vs the stand-alone DVD set?

Depending on how the series was animated and finished, it may only exist in SD.

It looks like it uses the new transfer, too!

I’m having trouble figure out the 4th DeLorean.

1. The original from the first movie
2. The one Biff used to get to 1955 from 2015
3. The one Marty and Doc used to get to 1955 from 1985A

The only 4th one I can think of is the one Doc stores in the mine in 1885, but that DeLorean and the 3rd one I listed should be the same right? That DeLorean was replaced by the 1885 one since once that one left 1955 to get to 1885 stayed in the tunnel until 1955.

Yes, the one in the mine is the fourth one because technically it's there throughout the events of BTTF Part II. Delorean 3 only becomes the fourth one (in linear terms) at the end of Part II, until then they're still separate entities in time.

Pretty sure it has all the same extras but the hour long making of and half hour interview are in HD whereas on the DVD they are obviously SD.

This is what I read online about this. "If you look at it from our perspective, there are three - the original one Marty used in the first movie, the one Biff stole to bring the sports almanac to his younger self and the one Doc and Marty used to get the almanac back. The 4th one is the one Doc hid in the mineshaft in 1885. It wouldn't be in the mineshaft yet until Doc gets struck by lightning and gets sent back to the Old West, but from the perspective of the Delorean (for lack of a better word) it spent 70 years in the mineshaft until November 12th, 1955 when the other three make their appearance."

According to the explanations of how time travel works in the BTTF universe that are given by Bob Gale in the official BTTF FAQ, from Marty's perspective I don't think there'd be a Delorean in the mine for most of BTTF II, it would only ripple into existence there after the hovering Delorean with Doc in it gets hit by lightning and sent back to 1885. If Marty and Doc had for some reason went to look in the mine before that point in the movie it wouldn't have been there, although after that point the memories of any non time travelers who had looked in the mine would be changed to reflect the new history where it had been there all along. Look at the discussion of Doc's gravestone and the name of the ravine in part 1.18 of the FAQ for a comparison.

This model of time travel doesn't make a lot of sense if you think about it too hard (what if a non time traveler had accompanied Marty looking in the mine before Doc got sent back--would that person remember Marty having seen the Delorean too, even though Marty would remember an empty mine?) but hey, it's a comedy.

Back to the Future's Time Travel was good, and sound.
Back to the Future 2/3's Time Travel is, to quote Bruce, Rhodey and Scott: "Shit"

I think in terms of making for entertaining movies, the time travel was good in all three, but if by "sound" you mean "still makes sense if you think about it in depth" I don't agree. Like, how can people (including people in photos) gradually fade away because the weren't born--you either exist or you don't, how can you half-exist? And if Marty had disappeared completely because he was never born, would the things he had done in 1955 still have happened? (if not, then he wouldn't have disrupted Lorraine and George falling in love, and in that case he would have been born after all). And the younger Marty we saw in the parking lot at the end of the movie must have had different memories of his parents since he would have grown up with the happy and successful versions of George & Lorraine, so what happened when he went back in time to 1955?

There are two timelines in the first movie.
The Twin Pines timeline and
The Lone Pine timeline.
Lone Pine has the successful George and the Marty we never see.
Twin Pines has the meek George and our Marty who then went to live in the Lone Pine reality. This is why Jennifer looks different. Marty recognizes the outfit.
Lone Pine Marty goes and lives in the Twin Pines reality.
If Marty came back the instant after he left, the multiverse wouldn't exist, but since he was there while he was there, it split.

As Tom Wilson points out “It’s a movie!” Stop trying to analyze these movies using deep logic. Haha.

If there were a multiverse of coexisting timelines in BTTF, why would Marty start to disappear along with his siblings in photos? In your theory the timeline he came from would still exist (and his siblings would still be alive there) even if his interference in 1955 put him in a different timeline where his parents might not have gotten together. I think the fading shows the intent was to have a single "rewritable" timeline, which like I said is fine for creating an entertaining movie but leads to all kinds of problems if you think about it too much.

Heh. Time travel always works how the filmmakers want it to work, even if that means mixing and matching from different theories, but as long as there's an emotional logic to what's happening then people just go with it. The thankless task of trying to unpick it falls to us nerds.

I'm pretty confident we could Jurassic Park III to that list.

It doesn't look like a brand spanking new transfer but then it doesn't just look like the old one upscaled either, as the hefty EE is gone.

Let's be real, sometimes it also doesn't work how they want it to work.
