Part III: https://screenshotcomparison.com/com...2655/picture:0

The sequels especially look promising detail wise. Can't wait to see those from the actual discs.
Compression has nothing to do with anything, that's DNR.
And a lot of it

Are you sure you're not looking at the mouseover shots? Thats DNR...

The new shots look like grain with YouTube encoding. Thats just what YouTube does to grain.

I am definitely going to wait for reviews everywhere before I buy another set.
The BDs are a DNR fest, and these screenshots look just as bad.
Universal has had such great releases in UHD. Please don't mess this up, and give us beautifully filmic transfers.
Is it Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, who insist on DNR here?

Agreed. There's still some shitty compression in the action shots (surprise surprise, it's youtube) but underneath that the grain has gone. Erased...from existence! That Clara shot in III does look yummy though.

But I'm not panicking just yet (even though I wouldn't trust Bob Gale to run a piss-up in a brewery), as we've no idea what the mandate was for preparing these sources for the youtube piece.

Heh.

Jesus christ people, YouTube quality is some of the worst compression you'll find online, it annihilates grain most of the time, wipes it off. Are some of you seriously discussing this?

Here we go again with YT comparisons, as if 2001 wasn’t enough... why would Universal, who just released a beautifully looking Jaws among others, eff up this one?

Well, I guess Jaws was supervised by Spielberg.

At least there’s no point in making any assumptions based on YT video.

Exactly! That's why after looking at the YT clip of 4K Jaws, I immediately turned it off! That's not my 4k!

I can say with some assurance that youtube does tone the quality down a notch.

That's not from the new 4K transfer.

yes, but not 100% 100% utterly gone like this with no hint of anything
but it is true that youtube does make a mess of things, that just looked so large scale smoothed it seems at least possible it had a lot of DNR

As she points out, "Just being here, walking down the street, we could've already changed the course of events." Fortunately, Deke insists that's not something to worry about. "The butterfly effect is just one aspect of the Multiverse branch theory," he explains. "Personally, I subscribe to the timestream idea... Imagine time is a stream, right, and we were sticks that were thrown into it." The stream isn't impeded by one or two sticks, but if too many are added, it creates a dam and the direction of the water is changed forever. "So, as long as we can avoid that," Deke adds, "we should be able to splash around a little bit and we're all good."

Are you referring to the post-controversy version? I'm not doubting you, but can anyone else attest to this?

If you're talking about the botched version, I had it on in the background the other day and wasn't entirely paying attention but it didn't "pop out" to me as a remaster.

Now that we know that it's a version Universal supplied them for the overseas market, it just seems like whatever print they used was different.

In general it seems odd that if they had been provided a 4K version for Part II that they wouldn't have been provided the new scans for all 3 movies.
